Greenfield coach hired at Henry County

Have broadcast Pete's games at both Gleason and Greenfield. I dubbed him the "James Brown of High School Basketball." Just as the Godfather of Soul was the hardest working man in show business, Pete may be the hardest working man in prep coaching. He is up coaching from opening tap to closing horn, no matter what the score is. He never takes a possession off. His teams will be fundamentally sound on both ends. Give him the kind of athletes that I know are in the halls of HCHS and the Patriots will be very competitive.

That's great to know. I too hear good things about coach Angelos and I wish him the best and look forward to next season and expect HC to be very competitive in the district.

Quite often I hear quotes like "athletes walking the halls at HC", I assume meaning that are not playing basketball. Heard this for years, and last year someone said that Coach Greer (who I think is a very good coach and will be missed) could get those kids to play. I noticed ONE new guy that played last year that had not previously played - maybe I missed some others. He was a good player but not a game changer. So I wonder, where are all these athletes? Do they play football only? We have many football athletes, but I don't see many over 6 feet that would be potential basketball players. I don't want to sound like HC is void of athletes, we do have some, but to say there are lots of athletes walking the halls not playing basketball (that could contribute)??? I don't buy that, but we do have enough to compete.

The line about athletes in the halls wasn't a knock on Henry County, just saying Pete got a lot out of what he had at a small Class A in Greenfield. Could really thrive with a AAA enrollment.

First year was very competitive at 18-9 (Lead by the HC all time leading scorer)

Since then 8-18, 6-19, 7-18 ,,,, this was not the answer.

Moving on to the next coach.

Would love to see the boys' program get some stability. Seems like the girls have really taken off lately since Curd took over. They've had some good talent of late as well.

What is the talent situation for the guys right now and going forward?

Good luck Coach Angelos.

I'm sure he will land on his feet. He seemed to do okay that last year we had Donaldson. HC basketball is not an easy job competing against that Montgomery County talent every year. I thought Coach Wilkins a few years ago did about as well as one could ask, and he had some very good players to work with. A coach can win at HC, but it wouldn't hurt to get another string of good players like we had from circa '05-'09.

How much does the travel wear down Henry Co once the district tournament season gets going? There have to be times when they play 2-3 games away from Paris, and the closest school is Northwest, which is a good 45 minute drive.  That makes for some very late nights, and has to have an impact on their performance as the season wears on, doesn't it?

I am not a lawyer, but I know school law in and out.  Similar situations just like this play out thousands of times each year across the country, even at the college level (i.e. Ole Miss)  The Plaintiff's never win...ever.  If I am wrong, please provide a legal precedent for me. • Yes Justin Cruse was named head coach
    • It used to be, I think it still is, a change of 20% +/- gives reason to reclassify. Schools can choose to play up classifications but not down. Here is the mid cycle reclassification info on TSSAA.org When Memphis East changed from a regular public school to an "all-optional" school in 2017 the would've dropped to A but chose to stay in AAA in basketball (baseball, and softball) Penny was still coaching there and with the players they had they would've beaten A teams by 40 and slept walked to the championship. Other Memphis schools stayed in their classifications (mostly in basketball) until the next reclassification cycle. Of course this is the same time that a 4th class was added basketball.
