What would you do if a coach

I would say "Yes Sir!" High schools sports is not public education, it is an elective activity. A player's right to play ends at the tip of his or her head coach's nose.

You don't like what a coach does, do the right thing. Talk to him or her face to face, in private. Social media is for cowards. Please note that I use my name on comment websites....

I agree with you, face to face... and I post my name and email address for all to see.

I suspended a player for telling me to kiss his ____ on Twitter because I was bringing them in to hit at 6:30am. I also approached the principal about another kid (not a baseball player) who popped off. The school couldn't do anything bc he didn't do it on school grounds, on school time, or on school equipment. He didn't threaten me so it was nothing school could do, but his football coach really blasted him and threatened to suspend him for his actions. The Supreme Court has ruled on this. Don't like it - Don't play!!

Agree 100% Leatherballs. From what I heard MJ was a three ring circus this past year with the parents. Illini, know would be the one that would know more than me, but I heard a parent actually laid hands on Coach Carter. Also, I heard Carter was escorted from the field a few times because he felt threatened. Unfortunately, I would be forced to dismiss all players who's parents could not act civil.

MJ is going to be a three ring circus every year. The entire coaching change, search, etc. was a 3 ring circus. Carter just happened to be the guy that got the position. I'm sure after one year under the helm, he would probably admit that it was a huge mistake to leave his comfy Davidson gig to go to a juggernaut program like MJ where it's impossible to please anyone.

Stories always get bigger everytime they are told...... I don't know if any of those things really happened or not.

IMO, a coach should never ever punish a player for the actions of a parent. If a parent is stirring the pot or posting negative things on a message board the coach should call a meeting with the parents, principal and athletic director and try to resolve any and all issues. No true educator would ever punish a student/athlete if they had a parent that was a drug addict or drunk so why punish the kid if they have a parent that is a jack _ _ _?

I knew that MJ was going to be a problem for Coach Carter. He runs a tight ship much like Coach Brown did at McGavock and that program had little discipline before he took over. If the MJ baseball program feels like they had a difficult time this year maybe we need to talk Coach Mel Brown into being the head coach for a few years.

This is true. However, after sitting in the stands for a couple of MJ games, they do act like a bunch of nutjobs.

I for one did not act like a nutjob ( have in the past) and know alot of parents that didn't..... mine did not have any problems , played and played well.... maybe next year will be better for him..

I mean have you been to a Houston or Farragut game?

I see what you did there.............

Yes. I have seen Farragut play. They act like morons as well.

My mantra? "Kids can't pick their parents."

Meh. I think you can be critical of some things as a parent and a coach should take it with a grain of salt. If you're questioning strategy or play calling. All is fair. You don't have to have a B.S. degree in education to know baseball strategy at the high school level. Tone and intent have a lot to do with with perception. Emails and Facebook posts don't have a sarcasm button and LOL doesn't undo everything you just said, still, if you're gonna put on the big boy coaching pants, your skin needs to be a little thicker. Most good coaches don't take that stuff to heart. They'll give you an honest answer about strategy and most any other thing you want to know if you do it in the right way. Everything is out of bounds once it gets personal. I think you lose the argument when you lose your temper and say things on a personal level. That's for adults. Team players abide by team rules and I would have them sign a players contract that specifies their rights as team members and addresses penalties for first offense, second offense and so on. Violation of Team Rules is a broad and powerful tool. Use it. I agree with cbg on this as well, ethical coaches don't use retribution against a player for a parent or guardians action. That's less than bush league.

ksgvols - I have had many a discussions over the years with my two head coaches on bunting and the old plus-plus 0-2 fastball :popcorneater:

Problem is not those things. It is when the old "he only plays his favorites" when your son or daughter is not one of them or "it is all politics" or "he doesn't know how to coach.." or "so and so needs to be our coach because..." and when it is the same attacks by the same people over and over again. Some parents don't seem to understand that they come and go, the programs last forever..... And this isn't curing cancer or solving world hunger, it is just kids playing a game..... they will always make more kids and more games.....

    • so the players dad who is a recruiter is now at Oakland?
    • We are optimistic because we will have another great season. You should keep your opinions on your Forrest Rocket board. These kiddos at Marion have had an amazing off season. They are working hard and it is showing. Coach TStark is getting these kids scholarships to get their college for free. Also Coach Harm is back so this is another awesome thing for our kiddos. Forrest will get theirs when they come to Bill Baxter Stadium this season. My main men Sam, Tay and Tilton are going to do amazing things this season. You should just watch and see what these kiddos are capable of doing. The Marion County Warriors are a force to be reckoned with again this year. East Robertson will be a good team again but that is the only big challenge this team will have again. If we can beat East Robertson like I know we can then we will go to the state championship and win the game. As always it is a great day to be a warrior. Go Warriors! We are Marion!
    • The player is only able to go because of the coach who is his dad. The dad is a recruiter not a good coach. HC blamed him for losing the Clinton game in the playoffs.
