Hillwood Coaching Vacancy

Recommended Posts

The last good Hillwood team I saw was the one with Joey Runion and John Barbero in 1973....The Toppers are in a no win situation as long as their enrollment stays at current levels.....It`s really sad to see that school falling apart in such a nice part of Nashville. It sits right next to a beautiful country club and across the street from a subdivision with high end real estate, yet it looks like it did 40 years ago....a microcosm of urban public education.

Hillwood had three straight solid seasons from 2002-2004.

2002 was 6-5 with a win over Stratford in the Bellevue Exchange Bowl.

2003 was 9-2 losing to Hillsboro (eventual state champs) and Clarksville Northwest

2004 was 12-1 winning their first 12 games (including Hillboro) before losing at White House in the quarterfinals.

Since that time, I don't believe they have won more than three games in a season.

I think they were 4-6 last year, just missing the playoffs due to a last game near-miss against McGavock who got in with the win. (?)

Hillwood's highlight was probably the win over Ryan.

I'm not sure who decided that Hillsboro would get the academic IB program and not Hillwood with the amount of "flight" to private schools out of the Hillwood zone (and to Hume Fogg and MLK) but that decision certainly was no favor to Hillwood.  It would be nice to see something in place for parents/kids in the Hillwood zone like that which would boost everything that goes on there and maybe convince them to not automatically go somewhere else.

    • I remember very well watching things change in the late 80's and yes it's all schools. Most people that are in charge today have any idea because they were raised and taught under this social experiment so they don't have a clue. Anyone that does see the truth for what it is usually try and hide it by blending in so that the School Gestapo doesn't round them up and take them to the Fuhrer ( kindly putting it ). Yes it is all schools not just Maryville. This train ride is not headed in a good direction and if the public had seen a movie of what's happening now back in 1980 everyone would have been headed home afterwards to change underware.
    • Hoping to make the playoffs.
    • You are so correct!  It’s really 99.9% of academia want to change to way that education is not only taught but the way it is viewed.  The pendulum has definitely swung as far to the left as possible and eventually will swing to the right much too far.  I have always  said that politics and one’s personal religious views need to stay out of education,  but for the last 40 years education has been running full throttle to what we have today.  If the social experiment that we are currently experiencing continues it is only a matter of time before the public school system in the USA completely collapses and all kids attend private schools or even worse don’t go to school.
    • He was a bruise but Aaron Dykes is HVA’s best RB ever.
    • I am talking about what they both did for their team. They both carried their team for four years while they were both there. I wasn’t really comparing them that would be unfair. Bishop is on a level of his own.
