Beech @ Station Camp

I'm sorry, but I just don't think SC has ever proved to anybody that they are worthy of playing undefeated Beech on ESPN. SC always has major let downs every year, their best regular season record to date in 5A football is 5-5. Not too impressive. But, everybody knows the only reason the game will be aired on ESPN is b/c of Hurd & Malone.

Beech wins 35-14

I don't think there is any disputing the letdowns at SC. I also don't think there's any disputing how this game got picked. I do however think a lot of people will be shocked at this game and I think it could go either way. High scoring game. Here's my breakdown in watching both teams:

QB play goes to SC

RB play goes to BHS

WR play goes to SC

Line play goes to SC

Defensively it's a toss-up. SC has as many athletes as anyone in the district. Whether or not they do anything with it is yet to be seen. Beech is the proven commodity and will have to be dethroned (although this team is not as good as the 15-0 team from last year).

Whoever makes a big play defensively or on special teams wins a shoot out. ESPN will be happy.

Same question for SC as it has been the last several years, are they good enough up front to compete with the best in 9-aaa. Elite WR, very good QB, good running back. Beech will play Malone the same way as everybody does, corner in front and safety behind which creates a 10 against 9 matchup for Station Camp. Can they run the ball well enough to sustain drives if Malone is being doubled or tripled. SC will pull out the trick plays (Malone throws a pass, Malone in the Wildcat, Malone on a reverse, Anderton catches a pass etc.)In a big game atmosphere I like Beech because they have been there before in this type of game while SC has not.

I have seen both kids in the off season. I assure you he is a different player. He was a sophomore last year and has matured a lot over the last year. He will be asked to win and Beech's qb will be asked not to lose. Two different scenarios. Two different QBs. Henry is very intelligent and quite capable, just not asked to do as much. Not because he's not capable, but because its not their offense.

    • Biggest position to fill is QB. Kamden was special. A 1A team that can run and pass is very dangerous.
    • That would have been Coach Benjamin who was his legal Guardian and the DB coach.  I was the LB's Coach that was barely older than the players (I was going to UT for school and had started at Greeneville since my Sophomore year when Z coached there and he asked me to help coach)
    • Going on over a month now and still nothing, rumor mill or not I think a decision needs to be made. Maybe they don’t have anyone wanting it and maybe rumor mill don’t need it they are taking this long to come to an agreement.
    • Gibson County proved last year you can win it all with 6 players and if I’m not mistaken they only played 5 in the championship game. I would expect them to be good by end of season but I think losing Hart is a huge loss.  Summer camp gives teams a preview of what to expect and it’s exciting to see where teams are at. The Fillies return 3 starters and the 6th man that is 6’2” and I think she is going to surprise folks this season.
    • Yep, the Guymon brothers.  I'm good friends with their cousin.  They are still around.
