Big Games in Memphis 2013 - Week 1

Well, well, well ... It seems that some of us have started out of the gate on fire, while some of us need life support! ... LOL ...

It's one thing to get to the top. It's another thing entirely to STAY there! Let's see what you guys can do this week! (Personally, I need to redeem myself!)

Big Games in Memphis - Week 1 will consists of the following 9 games:

Game 1: Arlington @ Collierville
Game 2: CBHS @ Germantown
Game 3: Fairley @ Whitehaven
Game 4: Kingsbury @ MUS
Game 5: Mitchell @ Central
Game 6: East @ Westwood play at J.P. Freeman
Game 7: Millington @ Brighton
Game 8: Trezevant @ Southaven
Game 9: Oakland @ White Station

My Selections:

Game 1: Collierville

Last week Arlington beat Kirby 24 -19. Collierville beat Bolton 49 - 17. Looking at those scores could be misleading, but I'm going to read something into it anyway. Add the fact that Collierville is playing at home and advanced in the playoffs last year, i'm going with Collierville.

Game 2: Germantown

Last week CBHS went to Nashville and had their heads handed to them by a good MBA team, 24-10. Germantown, in the meantime, had a defensive struggle with Millington in a 13-3 victory. Game is being played at Germantown, a playoff team last year. CBHS is under new leadership in coach Scott Vogel. I'm going with the fella's with the 'G' on the side of their head gear.

Game 3: Whitehaven

Last year Whitehaven beat Fairley 14 - 6. This year Fairley beat Hillcrest 20-6. Whitehaven beat Mitchell last week 20 - 6. The game is at Whitehaven Stadium. You already know who I'm picking regardless of those facts.

Game 4: MUS

Last week Kingsbury beat St. Benedict 28-21. MUS lost to Brentwood Academy 36 - 7. The game is being played at MUS. That being said ... It's been a long while since Kingsbury has beat MUS. I'm rolling with the Owls.

Game 5: Mitchell

Last week Central traveld to Hernando, MS and lost 27-20. Mitchell lost at Whitehaven 20-6. This game is played at Crump. I just think that coach Cole and those Tigers are going to pull this one out. I've got the Tigers in this game. (I changed again.)

Game 6: East

This one is a doozy to pick as well. Last week East beat Southwind 32-19. Westwood beat Hamilton 22-14. The game is at J.P. Freeman. I think the Mustangs win. (I changed this pick also)

Game 7: Brighton

Last week Brighton blasted Carver 59-6. Millington struggled in a defensive battle with Germantown losing 13-3. I don't think Brighton puts anything close to 59 on Millington. However, Millington's anemic offensive production against Germantown gives me pause. Therefore i'm picking the Cardinals.

Game 8: Trezevant

Last week Trezevant crushed Frayser 42-0. I don't have Southaven's information at my fingertips but I think they won. It doesn't matter to me anyway because I'm going to be a homer and pick the team from Tennessee to beat the team from Mississippi. Besides, Trezevant is a good program who can play with anybody.

Game 9: Oakland

Last week Oakland decimated Riverdale 41-7. That shocked me. I've read where Oakland is a contender for the title in 6A. That performance spoke volumes. I've read where the score could have been worse. White Station lost to South Panola on ESPN3 42-27. I watched that game. The 2nd half was more competive the the 1st. White Station just had too many mistakes in the 1st half to overcome. However, they are a good team with new coaches in place. The game is at White Station. Oakland will win in a hard faught battle. (I changed this one too!)

Great review on the games and your picks kwc. Enjoyed that and they made a lot of sense. Especially the Mill/Brighton game. You were spot on with that one, but you know I've got to go with my boys. The Trojans made lots of mistakes last week but they all can be corrected quickly. I truly believe in this pick and that things will be different this week for the Trojans Offense. Oh and thanks for your hard work.  Good luck guys.

Though Red Devils beat my Trojans last week , I

was not impressed. Mchs had 17 penalties for over 125 yards

And Germantown could only manage one offensive score.

CBHS could shutout Germantown this week.

Whitehaven

Wins this one by how ever many points they

feel like winning by.

Why even play this game?

Why is Central so bad? No excuse with the athletes

We can't be as bad as we looked vs Germantown,

Can we? Summer 7 on 7 success tells me we have

Skill position players to score lots of points. Must have

Trezvant has plenty of athletes. BUT not enough

Big uglies to beat a physical Sputhaven squad. Look for

Sputhaven to wear Trezvant down in second half and win

Oakland

Oakland will prove that a really good team

with a really good coach beats a really good team with a

Career losing coach every single time. Still wonder

How a coach with a career losing record was given the

It would seem that way... TSSAA seems to not want Mufreesboro teams to go West. But it ultimately depends on how many Nashville Metro and Williamson Co. teams make it in. I know I would Love to see a Whitehaven vs. a District 6 first or second place team in the Semifinals. Beating Mt. Juliet is passe' for us LOL. I love ya Wilson Co.
