TigerPride23
Let's not forget Poteete is in the record books around 13 times WHILE playing schedules that make these recent schedules of district teams, most definitely Upperman's current one, look horrible. In 2008 he had insane stats while still in the district before we came back to 8AA. That year we played White House twice (once in playoffs) who went to the semi finals and lost to eventual state champ Knoxville Catholic. We played Station Camp who was put out in the playoffs in the quarter finals to the very same White House team. Greenbrier while they were still very good. Pearl Cohn at pearl cohn (they were weak for their norm that year, but the athletes were still there). A 7-5 Sycamore team. McMinn Central was 9-1 entering the playoffs when we beat them. In 09 our schedule was already mentioned above. He still has the records despite all this. IMO he is not in the same conversation as York. If York can play against these kind of opponents and show what he's capable of then I'd say you'd have more people impressed, but we'll never know. Dang those are some tough teams, looks like the entire district Westmoreland plays every year now.
TigerPride23
Stats don't lie. I don't recall McCoin or Phillips or Poteet or any qb in this area post the numbers the Bees will put up barring injury. Phillips had 2,680 yards passing with 43 td's and 5 int's. Pretty solid if you ask me. Poteete isn't in records for nothing. McCoin just seemed to have the It factor when you watched him play. TigerPride23
Dang those are some tough teams, looks like the entire district Westmoreland plays every year now. Lol. A lot has changed though. Powers seem to have shifted a bit. WH is still legit, but aren't feared like they were back in those years. Station camp is definitely having a good year, but the last few haven't been anything like they were then either.

Greenbrier took them to OT Friday. Sycamore was beaten in double OT 2weeks ago by the feared Trousdale county yeller jackets. Westmoreland beat them in OT Friday night. Sounds pretty tough still to me. Everyone wants to think their Poteet is better than the other guys Yorky.

He was always running for his life and still making big time plays. Imagine Poteete on last years team, give him a little protection and some weapons and his stats would of been even better, Poteete is better than York.
UpperCumberlandMan
Id take Poteete any day over York. ok, enough with all the DC talk. When I the last time DC won the district? What is the all time record between UHSs and DC? And remember, DC has always been at thi level. UHS was 1a until like 93, 2a till 2003, and probably be up to 4a in 2015. I don't think th all time record is way lopsided, specially when DC has always been the bigger school.Oh, anyone know where Poteet played college? Phillips, Ty Fields, Poteet are all great qb's, but not quiet the McCoin level. When you consider his dad played pro ball, another LA qb played at UT but fell in the Peyton years, and Swallows started 3 years at Tech. LA quaterback school of this area. UpperCumberlandMan
Id take Poteete any day over York. and I will wait till end of year before saying if York or Poteet is the better qb. But I can tell you now, York is the better football player. Considering his punt and kick returns, and the fact they say he is a better saftey than qb but choose not to play him there. UpperCumberlandMan
The only Mr. Football candidate I saw on the field was # 25 fo Smith County. http://www.ncsasports.org/football-recruiting/tn/carthage/smith-county-high-school/jalen-manning I hope you were joking? He might not be the best back in his county, much less MR Football Edited September 9, 2013 by UpperCumberlandMan

Again, going purely on stats, please let us all know when York hits 9000 career all purpose yards so that we can know when he is getting close to Poteete. Best I've seen to come through this district in the last 10 years at least. Followed very closely by Brock McCoin. York is a good football player no doubt, but Mr. Football is just not going to happen. Good luck to everyone in the district this year, hope to catch some great district rivalries and most of all some good games.
