Notre Dame is VERY ATHELETIC but their play calling blows my mind. They never stick with what works and are always pulling trick plays on 1st and 10... They lined up off sides 5 times vs us in critical situations

Very similar styles and abilities. I would love to have either on my team! Both were very fast. Cates a tad more power runner. Brock a tad more elusive. Probably about even in passing. Hard to choose between them. I'd take Cates on defense though. He had a few more pounds to knock the snot out of you with! Just my opinion!

Cates might have played a tougher schedule too. Played in the old 4-3a 'super region' which was the current region including Portland and TC up through his junior year then played all the East TN teams his senior year. I did see him get his helmet knocked off and cry when he was a freshman so he loses some mystique to me, but he was definitely a rare talent who was enjoyable to watch but you hated to play against.

I think all young players go through a phase in their life early in their careers. Poteete played like that at times and look what type of players these kids turned into and even better young men.
