From everyone I have talked to, to what I have seen thus far, they are about what I expected for this year. I was just hoping for a little more. Gallatin people expect a lot. Fairly or unfairly. I want the Green Wave to be the best!! I think they have a good shot at the next 3 games. Portland is the first game of the stretch run. I just hope they can play hard and cut out some of the mistakes.

I, as all folks from Gallatin, should want the Wave to be the best. I didn't see the lost to TC but knew Hendersonville would be a difficult task. Even though last week was a let down, I still hope for more. I can see 7-3. All must be taken with a workman like attitude. Portland will be ready to duplicate last year and Gallatin will not tolerate a repeat. Mt. Juliet is next week.

On a high note, Freshman beat Station Camp decisively 48-32. It was 35-6 going into 4th with mostly 2nd teamers in and SC fought back hard to no avail.

This being the first year of the new four year alignment, the district re-drew the schedule back in the offseason.  It just worked out in the draw that Gallatin plays Portland, Mt Juliet and Lebanon at home again this year, and Beech and Station Camp away again.  Hendersonville and Wilson Central stayed on the same rotation.  It all flip flops for next year of course.

Thanks EG, for the explanation, I had no clue. Hope you and your family are doing well....and good luck to yall Friday night. I will be on the sidelines doing my usual photos for the parents lol

Glad to help out.  Same to you guys Friday night.  I will try to sneak over and say hello to you sometime, in between trying to sell a few programs or at halftime.

Gallatin should make the playoffs and I would think that's with a 6-4 record. I will say that's better than what I anticipated and is a huge improvement from last years record.

7-3 to 5-5 is what I thought they would be after I saw how well they were doing in the passing leagues. Granted I was taking a lot for granted but the entire attitude was different this year and I liked the changes in the staff. I thought the other coaches and people weighed too much into the past lack of success at the freshmen level. 2nd to last in the district was a really bad prediction. Not too mention the "haters" that were saying 1-9. That was just stupid!! I still think that if they can work hard 3 wins to finish the season is very possible.

In 2004 in route of taking a 51-0 beating, I vividly remember seeing a Portland player badly breaking one of our guys legs on the field. I will never forget that sound. Back then they always had a pretty solid team but seemed to get bad quickly after their first season in a new district in 2005. Can someone explain the sudden downfall of their program. Was it due to playing in a higher classification alone or did other things factor into it? From 06-11 was a very bad 6 year stretch football wise. Last season they turned the corner a bit and made it back into the playoffs but reverted right back this year. 9 years into AAA ball why have they not been able to field competitive teams?

2 reasons in my opinion. Coaching and athletes. Roger Perry had great success their but even he knew that if Portland were to compete with the other schools they would need more athletes. Last year, Portland had a decent team and a few playmakers but were helped by a very weak schedule. If they trade schedules with Gallatin, Hendersonville, or several others, they miss the playoffs last year. Best thing that could happen would be for the lines to be redrawn and Portland to play at the 4-A level. No offense to Portland.

Can't agree that it's coaching.

i agree with eers, it has nothing to do with coaching. Portland has had 4 different head coaches since Roger Perry and only the current staff has made the playoffs.

it is the "jimmys and joe" not the "x's and o's"

i think it boils down to Portland being a mostly Rural 5A school playing mostly Urban 5A/6A schools. As far as this year goes, the expectations for them were a little high with the loss of so many senior playmakers from last years squad. not many teams repeat success when they graduate a top QB, RB, and OL. in the same year.

BTW...Gallatin has been helped by a weak schedule this year or they would not be talking playoffs right not either... that being said, they should win this week.

I think Gallatin wins this one.  Coming off a blow out against Station Camp and the fact that Gallatin lost to Portland last year will be the reasons why Gallatin will be motivated to win.  Gallatin still has a long way to go.  Defense has to step these next few games.  It is getting down to crunch time and Gallatin needs win out to carry some good momentum in to playoffs.  Good Luck Wave.

    • Yeah.  Kids only transfer in and out of Bearden these days, you know.   That particular poster evidentially has a personal vendetta with Josh Jones.   Consider the source.  And the kid transferring to McCallie is a terrific talent, but an opportunity to go to McCallie on scholarship (and I am assuming that is the case) is one that is very much beneficial both athletically and academically.  McCallie is a great school for both.   Bearden will be fine.  And so will both of those kids who decided with their parents/advisors to go elsewhere.
    • I think we are conducting interviews now since we have so many wanting to come to school here and play for a real team with a chance to play in front of lot's of fan's and have a chance to win a championship every year.
    • Esteemed colleagues, On this auspicious Saturday morning, I fortuitously encountered Dr. Satterfield at the Early Bird Cafe, whereupon we engaged in a discourse concerning the pool of candidates vying for a coveted position. Dr. Satterfield, possessing a discerning eye, has graciously shared insights into the contenders, which I shall now relay to you in a structured manner. Eric Vetetoe, though initially absent from my considerations, ascended to the zenith of Clint's roster, poised atop his discerning clipboard as a preeminent candidate. Kyle Gregory, with a coaching demeanor reminiscent of a bygone era, has captivated Clint's admiration. His interview performance, I am informed, left an indelible impression, aligning seamlessly with Clint's nostalgic sentiments. Davy Cothron's cerebral approach to offense, notwithstanding a past championship game setback, garners high praise from Dr. Satterfield. His strategic acumen, it appears, remains unblemished despite previous trials. Brandon Eden's steadfast allegiance to the team, evidenced by his tenure on the creekbank, earns him considerable favor in Clint's estimation. Anticipation lingers as to whether an offer may be extended in recognition of his unwavering dedication. Wesley Satterfield emerges as a compelling candidate following a favorable assessment by Mr. Satterfield himself. The prospect of a Satterfield succession holds a certain allure, embodying continuity and tradition in equal measure. Kyle Shoulders, a surprising entrant in the applicant pool, impresses Clint with his football intellect, potentially positioning him as a contender for the role. Josh Hackett's defensive prowess, particularly in encounters against Trousdale over recent years, earns commendation from Coach Satterfield, underscoring his proficiency in the strategic aspects of the game. John McNeal's track record of success across multiple sports affords him undeniable merit, though the prospect of his acceptance, if offered, remains uncertain. Chad Evitts, a former NFL luminary, presents a unique opportunity, recognized keenly by Mr. Satterfield, to infuse our program with elite expertise and experience. Matt Dyer, revered for his contributions during the regular season, faces scrutiny for his playoff performances, a dichotomy that weighs upon Clint's evaluation. Chuck Gentry, endorsed by Dr. Satterfield, embodies the promise of transformative leadership, drawing parallels to his past triumphs in revitalizing programs akin to ours. Clint extols BJ West's astute management at the middle school echelon, where his strategic maneuver of strategically calibrating the team's schedule to optimize performance stands as a testament to his sagacity and acumen in navigating competitive dynamics. In conclusion, the deliberations surrounding our prospective leadership remain nuanced and multifaceted, underscoring the significance of this decision in shaping the future trajectory of our esteemed institution.
