South Pitt vs Coalfield

I agree with KingBrian on a few things. I saw #60 run onto the field and saw a few of the SP kids run in front of him trying to get him back on the bench as well. It was a very physical ball game by both teams. It looked like both sides were doing their share of mouthing. I would like to see that get cleaned up as well. It's about time to move on to the next game now.

I agree with you Ambassador about the mouthing.  SP seemed to get into that habit some last year.  I think Tim Moore has done a decent job trying to clean it up.  SP has been flagged a lot this year.  That said, officials seem to let other teams celebrate in the end zone and after big plays. I recall some players from other teams nad mouthing and shaking their gonads in players face after a big tackle as far back as the 2007 playoffs.

Here is my $.02 for what its worth. I attended the game, kept stats on the home sideline and was able to make observations on what happened. The better team won. South Pittsburg's two-headed monster in the backfield of Jujuan Lanford (#6) and Kahlil Mitchell (#28) are as good a pair as you will see in the state. Mitchell was the best athlete on the field. South Pittsburg has great tradition, has great fan support and is the most dominant Class A team in the state. With that said, the Pirates are surely lacking in the discipline column. Numerous times throughout the game, I heard and witnessed South Pittsburg players jawing well after the whistle. By my count, South Pittsburg was flagged five times for personal fouls/unsportsmanlike conduct comapred to three for Coalfield. #60 for South Pittsburg stood out for the Pirates in their biggest game of the season to date, but it was for all the wrong reasons. An obviously athletic and talented lineman, the impression that #60 left on me is one of a selfish and shameful player that would rather talk the talk than walk the walk. His ejection late in the third quarter was justified. His run towards the field when the melee occurred with a little over two minutes was mind-boggling. How could a player that should have been sent to the locker room for the night, been able to get on the field to try and take part in senseless skirmish? There were several players that stepped on the field from the South Pittsburg sideline onto the field when they skirmish happened, but the TSSAA will decide whether to punish or not punish those involved. I do know that Coalfield head coach Keith Henry teaches his players to play hard, play with class and to never give up. I'm sure he is quite disappointed in the actions of a couple of his players for losing their cool. As far as this being a pattern, in my opinion, these are two completely different scenarios. In the 2011 game against Lookout Valley, the LV QB (name escapes me, but I'm thinking many Van Scribner?) was looking for a fight when he started the skirmish and Coalfield didn't keep their composure and paid dearly for their actions by facing the stiffest TSSAA penalty ever handed down for an on the field matter. My main questions for South Pittsburg fans are does your coaching staff allow the Pirate players to carry own with all the extra curricular activities after the whistle and how in the world did #60 have the opportunity to find his way on the field after he had been ejected? Best of luck in the state championship game. You all have a very good team, but it could be a much better and definitely a more respected team if they could learn how to play with class.

+1 honest perspective

Rlh to answer your question , there were a couple of plays on the South Pittsburg sideline where a Pirate player was ran out of bounds that I thought a flag could have been thrown, but I can't remember the specific numbers. As for me implying that the South Pittsburg coaching staff condones how their players act, I can only go by what I observed and they didn't do anything Friday night. That's why I asked Pirate fans if they condoned that type of behavior. Anyways, South Pittsburg won and was the better team. I just think they should be taught to handle success with a little more class.

As far as you saying this is a new coaching staff, that's a lame excuse. You either teach discipline and have it or you don't teach it and you let the players run the show and do what they want. My question on why #60 was able to get on the field was never answered. Who should be held responsible for that?

That game and that brawl was totaly on the ref's sholders LV had been playing dirty and eggin it on from opening kickoff . there were at least 10 times that there were late hits from LV players and shoving getting in someones face after a tackle hits out of bounds etc. They should have said something to each team way before that happened. there was not even a flag thrown until punches were thrown. like i have said the officals let to much go there needs to be better reffs period not to say that it will never happen but it is less likely to happen it the refs step in and say something before it gets to that point.

i see this one sided observation; you and your community has said over and over what you observed from SP players yet I not once read anything other than the coach was disappointed with a couple of his players. Really? And you think the rest of the state believes your players was not jawing? I have an observation when folks like you think of posting again pleas think of your next post in giving an observation as your teaching your children a life lesson, How would you want your kid to provide the facts if something they observed? The whole non biased version or well this is what I seen him do? As ESPN says c' mon man you didn't have 11 sister Teresa's on the field. Wow! I just don't know how you keep a straight face and post this one sided rubbish. My goodness I'm not asking for much but if your gonna keep this crap stirring at least one of you tell the whole story? Not once has anyone from coalfield said well I observed our players doing ? Really ? I' observed plenty but I refuse to steep to that level, Good luck next season and if SP loses everyone to this travesty of ignorance but are somehow able to keep at least 11 players and can give UC a descent game and at least take home a silver then so be it but I really don't think UC wants to win it that way they would rather SP take a beat down at full strength and I don't blame them. Regardless SP will play for a chance at a state title against a great team and unlike some i have never said this in all my 33 years as a follower of SP football but I hope SP don't ever play Coalfield again because yes there is a pattern you guys encourage it and It just ain't worth it! May god bless you all. .

As it stands now there is no suspension of players next week due to events that unfolded late in the game. If you want to keep this thread open, keep the conversation on the game and not the "what's going to happen" stuff. If the TSSAA reviews film and decides to suspend players we will open the other thread back up for discussion. Any more talk of suspension on this thread will result in it being locked.

Purplegrad let me ask you a question. Where you been hiding? Will you do me a favor? The next coach that Zieglar man gets make sure you remind him to fill out his Murphy Fair survey so those Marion boys can get their name put in Murphys book. Will you do that for me and Murphy?

Let me ask you a question. Why did that Henry man allow his boys to throw punches at the end of the game and shoot birds to that Wyatt man after that Henry man wanted him out of his stadium? Im about to get tired of this mess you keep talking about. That Henry man even got ejected a few years ago because he allowed his boys to act real bad. You think im joking but im not.

I wasn't using that as an excuse.  If you go back and look, I essentially pointed out that he inherited some mouthing problems etc.  As far as #60 goes, I can't answer.  It may have been a safety issue.  I suppose they could have sent him to the locker room with a LEO from SP.

I don't think the refs had good control of this game.

Bane us correct. That LV vs Coalfield situation a few years ago was completely different and worse than this one. Teams were slugging it out in the middle of the field. This consisted of some pushing and shoving by Coalfield and was quickly under control. On Friday the refs penalized Coalfield with a couple of penalties, tha ball was moved half the distance from the end of the run and that was it.
