What's going on with Powell? Matt Lowe life long member of Powell community, maybe best player in the History of Powell, and along with Clark Duncan most successful at Powell. Leaves a Powell squad loaded with talent for no apparent reason. Then a year later ends up Coaching at The Kings Academy. Derek Range comes in has a very successful seasons then IMO gets railroaded by the administration on some trumped up exaggerated charges dealing with test security. Then administration hires a head coach that has no head coaching experience who in turns leaves after one season. To an abysmal program. This is the same administration that rumor has it ran off a very successful girls basketball coach to hire one right out of college with no experience. Rumor has it they have tried to run off Coach Ogan. Powell has a proud athletic tradition. IMO they need an administration that is willing to get the community an athletic program they deserve.

I don't think the problem lies in Powell administration, it lies with Knox Co Schools.  They want the constant change and turnover.  Look at all the principals they keep moving year after year. From an outsider, Lowe is at a private school where he has alot of control.  Rang's situation was taken out of the Powell admininstrations hands. Kilgore was a reach when he was hired, and going to Karns makes absolutely no sense to anyone.  Powell's best bet to get stability is to make a hire with someone who is invested in the community, whether it be a previous or current assistant who can stay more than a couple of years.

I can agree to a point. Agree many administrators are running scared of a dictorial superintendent. Who make retalotorial moves when someone questions his authority or stands up to him. Then again so administrators are just like him on the building level but don't have the backbone to stand up to him. Knox co admin starting at the top is not good for athletics.

They would cut athletics if they could, no doubt.  It's just sad for the kids who invest so much in the programs, but never get the stability.  You will see more able families send their kids to privates.  Look at the recent success at Catholic, Webb, CAK, and Grace.  Those schools have stable head coaches, many resources to emphasize athletics, and will continue to be a force in the area as long as the current structure continues.
