Alot of good duel tournys this past weekend. But tons of teams still dont have full lineups. Acts tests, hydration issues, weight. I know father ryan is better after christmas. But are we really seeing the best out of the states best right now. Clevelands 106 is ranked #1 but hasnt wrestled a single match yet. Ravenwood had ppl out yesterday. Just wanting to know everyone elses opinion on this? Im sure there are alot of teams as well.

I am not sure that I would say that wrestling is watered down until after Christmas.  If you examine wrestling over the past 20 or 25 years I feel the better wrestlers are much better today but the average wrestlers are not as good as past years and the below average wrestlers are terrible.  The real watering down of wrestling in Tennessee is due to having 3 divisions for a individual state title.  If iron sharpens iron there should only be one state title in all individual sports.  By forcing the best wrestlers to compete against each other under the pressure of the bright lights for a state championship you only increase the quality of wrestling in Tennessee.

At HW it is hard for a kid to go 320 to 285. It takes time.

I don't agree. At heavy, your body fat % is higher than any other weight

class. With the right diet, assuming your dealing with an athlete, it is easy

to drop weight.  Most "heavy"(over 270#) high school athletes DO NOT

eat clean PERIOD !

If you...

Change their protein to chicken breasts, white fish, egg whites, and a couple protein shakes

Carbs to sweet potato, oats, lil white rice

Fiber to green leaf veg. and asparagus

Add in small amount of veg. oil, cinnamon powder, and vinegar and your ready to shed the fat!

Cut out seasoning except walden farms products.  Especially salt and sugar!

There is alot of sodium in products above. Eat 6+ times a day.

THEY WILL LOOSE AND LOOSE FAST!

It's all about calories my friend.  You are what you eat!  If you are an overweight

athlete, you ate yourself into that position. That diet helped a very fit 21 yr old athlete

drop 40 lbs. in 10 weeks.  If you commit to the diet, it will work.

Lol not taken like that. You have 2 returning HW that won state last year both are on their way to play college football and neither have been on the mat this year. Bruno played around 35lbs over the 285 limit we knew it would take time.

A lot of the top wrestlers go down a weight class after Christmas but HW have no wher to go. Also high level coaches know it is a long season Nov-Feb and it is all about being the best in Nov not Dec. I thing it is good coaching and giving you and your athlete the best shot at state. You know they are some programs that are on a different level come stare time..

over time in Florida, you have seen their level of wrestling decline? How bout Ga? Short run I agree. Long term I'm confident Tn wrestling improves. Everyone loves a winner. Ask Alcoa football fans. Ask Maryville a few minutes away.

Yes, we all know how the YMCA ruined all youth sports by starting the trend to award participation trophies years ago.  Now everyone must be considered a champion or we are going to damage their self esteem and that will scar them for life.  The only problem with that philosophy  is that when they must take a job in the real world and the boss informs them that they have substandard skills and he is going to fire them.  We have become a nation of both mentally and physically soft individuals.  We are not helping the kids & youth of America by watering down competition.

I have to disagree about the competition being watered down.  Will the state tournament be watered down?  maybe so, but its 1 tournament out of the season.  The TSSAA may have decided to split divisions for this tournament but the way I see it you can try and wrestle anyone you want through out the season. so your competition is watered down only if you let it. No one says if your A-AA that you have to wrestle only A-AA teams all season or DIV 1 can only wrestle DIV 1 schools.   Does the TSSAA decision on the split keep wrestlers from going to off season tournaments, camps and clinics to become better wrestlers? NO.

I think the split will grow the number of wrestlers in TN and the more wrestlers means more and better competition.  WHen you can start hanging pictures of All State Athletes in your school and get some names in the paper etc. kids will gravitate to that.   When i first came to Tn the team i took over had 17 kids on it and only 4 of them had wrestled before High School.  4 years later when the program started to have some success the numbers have grown to over 40 in the room.

If people are not happy with crowning 3 state champs in a weight class ( AAA, A-AA, Div2) then someone needs to come up with an All Star event that gives  these state champs the opportunity to  wrestle each other to find a true state champ in TN.

    • This whole situation is bonkers. You don’t just kick your star player off the team just because you heard them say the F word; the coach definitely had something against the player, or somebody definitely did. Also, nobody has brought up the idea that the school blackmailed the college to get the college to withdraw the scholarship offer, not to mention that the coach who kicked her off is no longer even with the program; they were fired. I think this is a pretty easy lawsuit. I don’t know if she should deserve that much money, but I think she should get enough money for a full-ride scholarship if she cannot get one after this situation.
    • Oh yeah, I’m sure you are different people just always on the same thread for some reason, always agreeing with each other, perhaps just a bunch of dorks who would like to ###### and moan about high school football coaches do a lot of other students, so you make a football team and get a yell at them. When they do something wrong, but I’m sure you don’t like that, do you?   and I’m sure I’m aware of where you get information. A teacher who was on the coaching staff but was fired after the new coaching and staff came in and realized he actually had to start taking his assistant job a little bit more seriously than just wanting to make a little extra cash on the side, hardly even showing up to most practices, should’ve left with his buddy to go to Farragut. I’m sure he could get him a defensive coaching job, but I doubt he will be there in three years. Looking at the way Farragut is currently going.
    • It may be hard to believe but there’s more people than me that think you guys are a bunch of losers.    I’m sure the coaching staff, yourself included, cursed at a bunch of high school students. Nobody could name more than 3 coaches on staff due to the constant turnover.
    • That's complete BS.  Nobody at ACHS has access to CHS student records unless a transfer is made from CHS to ACHS.
    • Trez's last scandal has died down, so I guess this is there opportunity to be the best 4A team playing in 2A a la Sissy MTN.  At least they won't be in a Z-district with 1a teams in the regular season.
