IMO, OR's style of play is fine. I totally disagree with any type of insinuation that they don't succeed at the state level because of "style of play",  which is really just a code phrase for coaching. I think Coach Green is an excellent coach and he knows better than most what it takes to win at the state level.....he played on a state title team that his dad coached at Sweetwater.

OR was the victim of a horrendous  tournament draw last year. They held up against Southwind last year as well as anybody else did at the state, Southwind was just bigger and better, pure and simple; no style of play adjustments would have changed that fact. Playing in Arby's Classic should help prepare them this year.

Not what I meant at all. Coach Green does a great job with his team. You can't deny its tough to be beat Memphis teams playing an uptempo pressing style. East Tn teams that have won lately in Mufreesboro have not played OR's style. Fulton played half court and Maryville avoided Memphis teams altogether. I hope Oak Ridge wins it all, but they have the talent to play any style of play they want. Oak Ridge will easily make the State and will probably win it all this year.

I agree with everything you are saying now, although I don't think OR will win it all but they certainly have the ability to make some noise depending on draw..... as a Maryville fan, I fully realize Maryville's title run was made easier by avoiding Memphis teams but they did beat both of the teams that beat the Memphis teams. I think Green is a good enough coach to know that he has to play at a different tempo when playing Memphis AAA teams- they did against Greater Atlanta Christian, losing 46-42.

Contrary to popular belief teams that are good at playing fast, can usually play slow too. Teams with the quick skilled guards needed to trap and press can usually spread the floor and make longer teams chase. Good press and trap teams may not want to do that, but most are very capable of it in a pinch.

    • I believe that was last year. I was interested in the Jones vs Baker comment, so I went back and looked at GC. I am not a fan of either nor am I a baseball guru. This looks like to me the duel was not close and if the errors would not have been made Eagleville would have won. I assume you are a little biased. I do think your mph for Jeffcoat and Baker must be from last year.  Baker-85 pitches 67 strikes. 5.2 innings, 5H, 1BB, 0ER and 7K's. 3 errors  Jones- 78 pitches 37 strikes. 4 innings, 2H, 5BB, 0ER and 1K. 1 error   Adams and the UH kid are really good as well. What about South Pitt and Oakdale? I heard they have some good ones.
    • I hate this for all the kids in the program and fans alike. I can't recall of anything like this before in my lifetime but I'm sure it isn't a first. After criminal investigations are complete and the TSSAA looks into this the program it will be facing Nuclear Winter for some time to come. It's always the innocent left behind that end up paying the price for something someone else has done. I'm sure the transfer portal will be very active in Clinton over the summer months. How could you find a good coach worth his salt that would take on a situation like this not knowing what will happen.
    • I’ve seen Jeffcoat in person twice and he was 84-87 both times and the one time I saw Baker he was low 80’s, he actually got out dueled by Jones from ER in that outing.
    • Pirate fans, thread is up on the baseball message board.
