Things You Don't Know About Riverdale Girls Basketball

1.  Riverdale girls gather after every game and pray at center court with their opponents.  They do it at home and away games.  This was taken tonight after the Oakland game.

2.  The atmosphere is very special at this school.  1500-2000+ at most GIRLS games....stands packed.  Huge student body support for the girls.  If you have a chance to come to a game and watch the quality of these young ladies and the program, you will love it.  It is no wonder parents want their kids in in this program.  Most colleges don't have an atmosphere for girls basketball like the one at The Dale!

Here is the Riverdale student section for the GIRLS games...they don't just come to support the boys...

3.  Riverdale held a collection two nights in a row during the boys and girls games on behalf of Oakland boy's coach Mike Wright and family to help with his son's medical expenses as the boy recovers from surgery.  Over $1,000 was raised in the Siegel and Oakland games at Riverdale.  What school have you ever seen do something like that for a coach's family that isn't even affiliated with their school?

Riverdale encourages a family and community atmosphere.

Is this thread a reaction to perceived attacks or negativity towards Riverdale? I have always respected the team's play on the court and never questioned the character of the students or players. Letting the team's play on the court and their actions off of it speak for themselves seems appropriate to me. I am not sure I understand the motivation for publically posting all this, unless you are trying to defend the integrity or honor of your team or school from something I am unaware of. Help me understand.

Thank you for asking.  If you read thru the threads, it seems to eventually go towards some posters calling the program cheats because of their success.  Just do a search in the girls forum.  Most any thread regarding top teams in AAA or the AP top 10, or threads posters do like New Riverdale Recruiting Class.....people are jealous of the program and talk trash.  The program is clean....about as clean as you can get.  The purpose here is to show what most don't know about the program and it's fans who support it.  I have been in stands where some of the worst people in the gym are the fans...this is not the case with this school.  The negative talk towards the Riverdale girls basketball just gets old.

Look dude I wasn't gonna comment until your last post. People aren't jealous just fed up. It happened at shelbyville and riverdale before. Remember their 2 year penalty. They have just gotten smarter. As for the players, NO ONE has said anything about type of players their program has, just how they ended up there. Everyone questions the adults in charge. This whole post has the feeling of oooops I have been caught with my hand in the cookie so I'm overreacting. Trying to shift the focus. It's all good man.

    • And can you tell me who those two quarterbacks were, and every kid that was put into college from Bearden is a Bearden kid? It’s kind of why they graduated from Bearden.   and I would definitely not consider ETSU “waste”…
    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
