First, let me start by saying congrats to Dyersburg on the win and a good game. Next, I'm not sure who thought having three women referees for a region championship game was a good idea?! but I hope they learned their lesson after tonight because the three women were awful as a crew! Shooters getting bumped, balls being kicked, and nothing being called! Craziness! Third, let me say that the Dyersburg student section and the group of Dyersburg boys basketball players as well as a couple grown men from Dyersburg who decided to sit on Westview's side right in the middle were probably the most unsportsmanshiplike people I have ever seen in my years of watching basketball. While the Westview girls were having their picture taken after the game with their runner-up plaque, the dyersburg students decided to pose in the background of the picture and hold up their towels and shirts!! I bet y'all would have not liked it if our students did the same to your girls!! The group of basketball boys and the men sitting on Westview's side taunted the Westview fans the entire game. On another note, Dyersburg will now host Jackson Northside while Westview travels to Covington. Hopefully these two teams will meet again in the Boro!! Best of luck to both!

I was at the game and it was awful. One of the women reffed the South Gibson game Friday night over there against Chester County and it was a joke as well. Very poor officiated game. Dyersburg will get toned down a notch in M boro. They will not get away with all the pushing and shoving in the Boro. The turning point of the game IMO was Westview was up by one and was holding for the last shot at the end of the 1st quarter and had the possesion arrow to start the 2nd and one of the subs had it stolen and Dyersburg hit the three at the buzzer to end the 1st quarter. I thought Westview had the momentum until that point and it seemed Dyersburg fed off of that. IMO if I was Westview I would go with a bigger lineup and start the tall freshman as well as the OC transfer, the 2 Lahues, and Reechis. The two guards that subbed in and out did not play well and were not looking to score. IMO they are hurting you more than helping you.

Wasn't excited about a couple of those refs either, but Dyersburg is pretty loaded and they play hard. Congrats on the victory. Hopefully, we can go in to Covington and give them a punch in the mouth. If we play our game, we'll be in it. The 3rd quarter run by Dyersburg hurt us the most. We couldn't answer in that quarter. I'm still proud of the girls. See you in Covington on Saturday night!

Go Westview!

Woman ref was terrible in McNairy/Westview game as well.  #15 should have been kicked out, not just given a technical when she put in a knee into our players chest when she was on the floor

I don't disagree with the technical foul, but ejected?? C'mon. The McNairy girl was pulling her down and she used her leg not to fall on her. And for the record, that is the "only" technical foul #15 has ever had and the only technical foul our team has had all year. It looked worse than it actually was. We don't play that way.

I thought the same thing until I watched them three or four times late this year. I would love to see what McMillan or Russell would do with them the next two years. They have better than above average talent. They have very good talent. They just have an average to below average coach. They lose nobody for the next two years and Dyersburg and Westview will. Obion can't beat them now. The next two years on talent alone they will be a good AA team. As for going to AAA, that is my worse fear because my neice is a 6th grade player now and I don't want to travel to Memphis to watch her play in the future. Did u not make the West Carrol game either?

McMillan and Russell just blew an 18 point lead in the 2nd half. I guess the new UTM A.D. will hand them their walking papers. Make sure you apply p42!!  LOL

They played NC. Most coaches would have lost by 25 or 30. McMillan and Russell have forgot more about basketball than most of the current coaches know. We were very blessed to have them both at GC. I also feel fortunate to have Coach Wilkins, whom I feel has a great relationship with his players, is developing his players well, knows X's and O's, and plays ball 365 days a year.

Last time I checked McMillan and Russell didn't wear a uniform and weren't on the court playing. They got cheated of a win as a 13 seed playing a 5 seed. It should have been an upset but NCAA wasn't going to let that happen.

SL88, I agree with you, UTM got ripped in many ways. If you read the whole thread, I was making a point to p42. My point is it really does not matter, sometimes who is coaching, things happen. I do agree some coaches are better than others. Coaches are no different than players, some are more talented than others.

SLS you can say what you want, but Gibson County's goal for years is to make it to Murfreesboro and win a Gold Ball and always will. Lots of coaches don't put it in the extra time to organize summer ball from 6th through 12th grade to be competitive with Middle TN and East TN teams. Because I will assure you the McMinn Central's, Elizabethton's, Jackson County's and Clarkranges of the world are. I know times are hard and everyone needs jobs, but I feel if basketball coaches are not putting in the extra time teaching fundamentals and trying to make his or her team better and be the best they can be maybe they need to be teaching only and not coaching. Also when a whole team complains every day about their coach and parents are going to the school board to try to get them removed and players are quitting there is a problem.

In schools today, there are many more issues with spoiled kids and know it all parents, than there are coaches. Again not to say some coaches are more talented than others. SGC coach when hired ask for patience and time for the kids to learn and understand his system. Check out the announcement article in the local archived  newspaper. Obviously SGC agreed to this. He has had a very young team since he has been there, but yet managed a winning season each year. New system, new kids equals time to build a program, not just a team. SGC has as solid of a youth program as anyone. The middle & elementary school have fall and winter programs in place. Check out the 5th and 6th grade schedules on the school website. Just beacause they participate and choose to run these programs in the fall and winter, not in the spring and summer, does not mean they do not have these programs in place. The PAL league for younger kids has been established since the new coach arrived. So do not say the programs are not there, just because of when they choose to offer the programs.

    • Most of this is complete gibberish. But the one part I could decipher is putting kids in college. This coaching staff hasn’t put a single Bearden kid in college. They completed wasted one of the best WRs in East TN and have ruined two talented QBs. All because they’re in over their heads.
    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
    • This whole situation is bonkers. You don’t just kick your star player off the team just because you heard them say the F word; the coach definitely had something against the player, or somebody definitely did. Also, nobody has brought up the idea that the school blackmailed the college to get the college to withdraw the scholarship offer, not to mention that the coach who kicked her off is no longer even with the program; they were fired. I think this is a pretty easy lawsuit. I don’t know if she should deserve that much money, but I think she should get enough money for a full-ride scholarship if she cannot get one after this situation.
