According to the rules, yes he must sit out.  However, he will be allowed to ask for a hardship and he should be awarded the transfer without loosing a year of athletic eligibility.

As long as the player physically moves, and the TSSAA gets a letter from the principal and coach that the move was NOT for athletic purposes, then he will be good to go. We just went through the same thing with a player in baseball, moving from Gallatin to Portland because his Dad got custody, but, the letter from Gallatin wiped out any chance he had of playing this year except for JV. He even applied for the hardship appeal, and was denied. Just depends on the letter. Also the player can not be leaving one school for another due to disciplinary reasons either. They have the complete list of rules on TSSAA.org, but, even then, it depends on the letter from the school the player is leaving.

Did he leave Portland for Gallatin and then come back?

Did he leave Portland for Gallatin and then come back?

His Mom got custody after his 8th grade year, (she lives in Gallatin), then sometime in the last 6 or so months his Dad began proceedings to regain custody. He got said custody sometime back in Nov or Dec. Dont know if the timing had anything to do with it or not, just that the letter from Gallatin stated he was leaving for athletic reasons and that nailed it. Specially in the eyes of the TSSAA. But the kid seems happy playing JV only, but still sucks for the player to sit out a year of varsity play. It is what it is.

    • My opinion the 8 teams will be-  Greenback, Wartburg, Gordonsville, Jo Byrns, Eagleville, Bruceton, Dresden, and South Fulton. Gordonsviile is probably the favorite but I wont say it will be an easy road. With the right draw any of the 8 could win it.
    • I understand Gibson Co. will be announced tomorrow with a familiar name. Not sure about So. Gibson.
    • A huge addition to the staff today! Former Hardin Valley legend and Richmond College running back Aaron Dykes was announced as the running backs coach. Rushed for over 3,000 yards at HVA, with 35 total touchdowns. I loved watching in Hardin Valley. I can’t believe he’s at Bearden now. I know he was trying to get a HVA job, I don’t know what happened there and how he ended up at Bearden, but I'm glad he’s here and believe he will be teaching art class as well! What a good get for the staff!!
    • Thoughts? Gordonsville won it last year with a sophomore pitcher and returned almost everybody. Can anyone beat them?
    • I was kind of surprised to read this. I thought the general concision was most programs are going back to natural grass. Personally, I have never liked turf. I see the arguments on both side for or against it. I just never liked them. Also, I did not know there as an impaction test that these fields had to pass. Good stuff OP
