I see nothing in the Dead Period rule that would preclude Wilson Central from wrestling THEIR team in the Disney Duals, provided there are no Wilson Central coaches involved.  Certain sports, i.e. football and basketball, specifically address and allow summer school verse school competition.  In most other sports, wrestling included, the regulations pertaining to summer competition are silent, save coaching during the dead period.  Baseball has a 50% rule pertaining to the school year (think fall ball), not summer.

 

I applaud Wilson Central for getting what appears to be 12 matches for their wrestlers during a time when most of the rest of us are sitting on our butts.

Beginning the first day of summer break 2014, there are no longer coaching restrictions for wrestling EXCEPT during the dead period. I suppose the dead period will always be. Usually it is the 2 weeks immediately following the season and the week of and before July 4.

 

I'll be shocked if there aren't consequences for those organized teams at Disney Duals. Because the rules for wrestling (and a couple other sports) are now so relaxed, Mr. Reeves has emphasized that the rules which are in place will be strictly enforced. Not sure how having an organized team compete in a major competition isn't in violation of the dead period. Individuals competing on their own with mixed all star teams (Junior Duals) is a completely different scenario.

Congrats to the Tennessee guys down in Orlando...I know the coach of Flagler...they are a pretty impressive team.

You should have seen them in the last match for third place Knepp... there were two if the kids injured in the semi finals match (a couple earlier). Both kids we had to med. forfeit in semis against Manatee... both came back and wrestle for the team in the last match of the tournament... one got a pin... the other Billy Raulston put forth a valiant effort (barley walking) to keep his match to a decision. Which the team won the dual for third place...by 3 points. Wish we had more kids like Billy Raulston in the wrestling world.
