Week 0: South Gibson Co. at Camden Central

Recommended Posts

2013: South Gibson 23 Camden 20

Last year SGC got a big, unexpected, depending on who you ask, win over the Lions. It was a back and forth battle that came down too the final play. Camden fell short in the game, but had the higher postseason seed. Camden could of won, but they went, and failed, to convert multiple 2-point conversions.

Camden (D-11 AA) is a team that has a very had schedule ahead of them in a very strong district (per the 3A west side of the bracket). I don;t know what to expect from them. They have been described as a young team that will have a hard year, and others have said it might be one of the strongest teams they have had in a while. Camden last year had a feared defense, but I don;t know who all they have back.

SGC (D-13 AA) has a mix of returning players and new players. Lowery is the returning QB for SGC, but didn't play verses Camden last season. SGC brings back running backs and wide receivers, but will feature new lineman yet again.

This is the second meeting of these two 3A teams. How does this game go down between two playoff probable teams?

How good is South Gibson supposed to be this year?

This is a tough one to answer.  The coaches have taken a slightly new tack this year in that during the conditioning period they have stressed getting bigger.  More weight lifting to build muscle mass and to cut fat.  They are going for a more physical team.  We will have to see how this plays out.  There are several good players on the team who will make good contributions.  There is a sophomore who is outstanding: great speed, fantastic arm and comfortable in just about any position.  Not real big (5-5 or 5-6) but he is good.  Can't wait 'till the scrimmages to see how the team does.

As a Camden fan I will tell you..Physical wins football. I never ever disrespect our coaches by talking about"when coach Ward was here" but I truly believe we were a much more Physical team then. Not sure if its the kids being smaller(seems like it)or the fact that all those kids from then are now so big (being fully grown men in most cases)or only in my head(probable). I know this, if you ask teams back then(McKenzie comes to mind) win lose or draw it took most of them 2-3 weeks to recover physically  from playing us . That takes a toll mentally after a few years in a row

South Gibson didn't disappoint me tonight, They played well in the 2 quarter 21-13 loss to Peabody. We had some nice passes to Reed and Cobb coming from Lowery, even though we did through a couple INTs. We had a fumble recovery and overall didn't look bad as some people made us out to look. Not saying that were going to be a powerhouse or big name in 3A year but I wouldn't sleep on the Hornets in a game. But do whatever you like.

Camden man handled what I thought would be a very good Bruceton team ,20-6 in 2 quarters and the 6 was a goofy play..Kid tried  to pick up a punted ball that was just laying there waiting to be downed..lol coach probably has him killed by now..couple of turnovers one pick and a fumble ...Then JV played and it was 14-0 Camden I believe

played a 5th quarter freshman game and Bruceton won 7-0 over all a very vanilla scrimmage with a lot of good work and film for both teams.. I am still high on Bruceton this season and gl in your district..Noah we will see you Saturday 7:30...

Doesn't make a different to me. But Camden is to me in High school as Alabama is to me in college. I just want them to lose no matter who they play unless it's a playoff/bowl game only cause they are in our District/Conference. Got to represent but hopefully South Gleason pulls this one out but I doubt it.

You mean South Gibson.

    • Wow I haven't been keeping up with softball had no idea.Been keeping up with baseball and we are slowly fading there.I will check it out!!Thx
    • It is what it is. Sorry DFL.
    • One of the biggest loosing teams in Mid-State are the Macon County Tigerettes. I have noticed that the roster is smaller than in the years past. All the senior's have quit. We have a great group of Jr High players coming up. I sure hope they don't loose them, like they have lost so many others this year. With this young group of girls coming up, a weaker district, they should have no problem going to State.
    • It was updated this season, because I did it.  Linder is the school's all-time leading rusher at 5,156 yards with 2,436 of those coming in 2014.
    • Oh, I’m sure you did. Maybe you heard just a rumor, but considering we have a football practice field and a soccer field that’s frequently used for lacrosse games and practices, I highly doubt it. Let me change that. I know for a fact that didn’t happen.   Glad you finally stopped attacking a bunch of high school students, but still obsessed with the coaching staff for some unknown reason, even though you could name more than three (at most) coaches without looking it up. But now come up with something else.
