You can live anywhere and go to Catholic ... and if you cant afford it ... well the Church will help offset ... LOL

That's a myth.  The Catholic church is broke, paying for football players isn't in the financial cards.  I know you guys like to believe that but it's not true, so find another valid or invalid argument.  How about the rumors (that's gone on for years) of Fulton giving parent's address's so their kid could be eligible when transferring?  Since hearsay is the norm on this site could you riddle me that?  It's all in jest.  I'm still waiting for the serious football talk to start up.  Bottom line: Fulton and Alcoa have talent and tradition and Catholic has great facilities.  In the end it's up to the parent to decide whats best for their kid.  We can all agree to disagree. Let me say this if Catholic does recruit like people say then why do we have one state title (2008)?? The recruiting coordinator should be canned.

Yes a troll starting something is gamesmanship, so we match it with our own gamesmanship. As for advantages, we have advantages in certain areas, such as our winning tradition (the name Alcoa is enough to scare teams sometimes), how hard our kids work from the time they're in kindergarten through high school (feeder programs and weight training), open zone which allows kids to come play for a winning program (we don't recruit them, they come to us first).

Those are the 3 biggest advantages we have other than the living legend Gary Rankin, who has won everywhere he's been.

Look at Rankins win loss record at Smith Co where he had no built in advantages compared to Riverdale(where I played) and Alcoa. He had some good teams at Smith, but no titles, no undefeated seasons. I could go coach coach Alabama and beat Tennessee Tech. These so called advantages are huge but not illegal under tssaa rules. Tradition, Good coaching, great field, going and getting kids in to play for you, out of zone kids paying to attend your school. I don't agree with the hard work thing. Plenty of teams bust their butt across the state. Those other advantages are they key. Edited by UpperCumberlandMan

Some teams just bust their butts harder than others. You get out what you put in. No Rankin didn't win any rings at Smith County, but people forget it was a dumpster fire when he got there. His first year was the groundwork, then the next year they upset #1 Gordonsville. He also took them to the Semifinals in 1985, their first time to make it that far and a place SC has only seen twice since.

Rankin could do a good job anywhere he coached, that is a given. But to think he could have had double digit rings at a school without the advantages is ridiculous. Same as when he left Riverdale. Hard zones started being enforced, new schools pooing up every year diluting the talent and he left. He is a great coach, but the advantages are what they are.

Coach P quit he wanted the greener grass of Georgia high school football. He did interview for the position again but the administration hired Matthews (a great choice).

10-0 first year at Brentwood, District title in first year at Rhea Co, Semi final as OC at UHS, State Title at Catholic.....the man can coach. Just wish he stayed in one place a little more.

    • I believe that was last year. I was interested in the Jones vs Baker comment, so I went back and looked at GC. I am not a fan of either nor am I a baseball guru. This looks like to me the duel was not close and if the errors would not have been made Eagleville would have won. I assume you are a little biased. I do think your mph for Jeffcoat and Baker must be from last year.  Baker-85 pitches 67 strikes. 5.2 innings, 5H, 1BB, 0ER and 7K's. 3 errors  Jones- 78 pitches 37 strikes. 4 innings, 2H, 5BB, 0ER and 1K. 1 error   Adams and the UH kid are really good as well. What about South Pitt and Oakdale? I heard they have some good ones.
    • I hate this for all the kids in the program and fans alike. I can't recall of anything like this before in my lifetime but I'm sure it isn't a first. After criminal investigations are complete and the TSSAA looks into this the program it will be facing Nuclear Winter for some time to come. It's always the innocent left behind that end up paying the price for something someone else has done. I'm sure the transfer portal will be very active in Clinton over the summer months. How could you find a good coach worth his salt that would take on a situation like this not knowing what will happen.
    • I’ve seen Jeffcoat in person twice and he was 84-87 both times and the one time I saw Baker he was low 80’s, he actually got out dueled by Jones from ER in that outing.
