2014 Cheatham County Cubs

Recommended Posts

The 2014 Cubs hope to return to the playoffs under second year coach Brian Mintz. They return a lot of starters to both sides of the football and are in position to make a strong run. On a personal note I hope that it is a good season for the Cubs. On years ending with "4" the Cubs have enjoyed great success.

Thirty years ago (1984) the Cubs went 9-2 and won the Booster Bowl (vs Whites Creek). It was the football program's first bowl victory since the school relocated (the current school opened in 1970). That was Bennie Daniel's final year as the head football coach of the Cubs.

Twenty years ago (1994) the Cubs advanced to the TSSAA State Playoffs for the third time in school history under first year head coach Terry Arrington. That year the Cubs football team won the first playoff game in program history (at Lexington) thanks to a memorable performance from running back Jeremiah Ligon.

Ten years ago (2004) the Cubs returned to the state playoffs for what would be a third consecutive season under third year coach Cody Finley. This time however the Cubs actually earned the right to host a home playoff game for the first time in school history (vs McKenzie). The Cubs scored 50 points that night and won thanks to the performance of quarterback Chris Langley.

Those were 3 outstanding football teams that many people in the area remember fondly. Here's to hoping that the 2014 team can create the same type of memories.

Thanks LBD for posting the information on the Cubs 2004 playoff game and how Finley was

The coach and Langley was the QB. Their win in that playoff game was special.

We hope that the combination of Finley and Langley can get the Rebels to the playoffs and

Get a win. If they do there will be a celebration in Dover you can bet on that. Good luck to

the Cubs and best wishes on a successful season.

Cheatham will need to replace the entire offensive backfield, all the linebackers, and Brett Beamer will be the only returning DB. With only about 35 players and 3 coaches on the team Cheatham will need to play tough. Luckily they're usually a pretty tough bunch.

I'd have to give White House the edge but not by much. Westmoreland should be tough but you never know in high school

You are so right about this. How many times where we have seen on paper a team with superior talent get punched in the gut and not recover. I know many sports require hard work and desire, but in football more so than other sports, desire can overcome many advantages other teams may have.

    • Why? Low pay. Low budget thanks to the Rotary milking the programs revenue. Foul smell. There are other negative things... Positives: the players and being toward the top of the classification numbers wise.
    • What we have here is an influx of outsiders raining down on the town of Maryville like a swarm of locust trying to change our culture into the same crap they moved away from. I have no issues with anyone coming here but don't bring your politics with you. Most people around here never pay attention to the elections and keep letting the same ole rats and vermin right back in the back door and wonder why things are like they are. The problem at Maryville High is mainly due to letting outsiders get a foothold on control and shove their agenda down everyone's throat. Anyone that leaves there or let's say ranoff are replaced with an outsider with the same mindset. Eventually Maryville High will never be the same as it once was which I'm beginning to believe already but it's only chance of survival are to recruit people that will get in there and reverse the damage that has already happened.
