It is sad that even sport much more successful than football, like softball and baseball, aren't supported NEARLY as well by the community.

By no means knocking the success that football has had, just an observation.

Went to Howard a couple of years ago when the boys made sectionals and DC had maybe 30-50 people there. Chattanooga isn't THAT far away. And that was a big milestone for Martin and the program. Just no community support.

Probably as much as four times as many people went all the way to Knoxville the next football season for the first round of playoffs.

Oh well. Rant aside I'll always cheer for an 8-AA team that stays alive in the postseason. No matter how bitter the rivalry.

Obviously we have are own opinions about our teams and this district so it is what it is. I can only speak on behalf of what I've seen and that is the boys and girls in cannons basketball program work extremely hard for this community as I'm sure athletes at other schools do as well. So I'm going to back the program and boast because im proud all these young people's hard work is paying off. DC is still pathetic..lol.

You would think our district has football championships galore by the way it gets supported by the communities. As successful as LA has been in basketball, it still plays 2nd fiddle to football. Sadly basketball & baseball is just to pass the time. CC has been so bad in football that the excitement has to be for basketball. I think that is great for the basketball program. That excitement helps fuel the players. I have been complaining about the LA girls not showing heart but the stands are half full when they start playing & the students dont cheer at all. Gym fills for the boys games & students put their phones down to cheer a little but standing room only at the football games full of screaming fans. Good for CC! Edited by oldkodger

Blevins-York and Key-Clay co. are very good and should have a great future, but  Middle Tn. encompasses a large area with a lot of players. Apparently you have seen ALL the players on ALL the teams in Middle Tn. play. If not, your display of arrogance leaves a lot to be desired. P.S.- I would wager that you haven't seen half the players from 8AA on the court.

Just stating my opinion...If you disagree thats OK....As far as Blackwell and the Greater Nashville area, I consider a different region IMO....To me Middle Tn in Sports starts around Crossville and ends around Carthage area...Nashville and Boro is totally different region IMO but my opinion doesnt mean much....Given my opionion I will take Blevins(York) and Key(Celina) as the top 2 in Mid-State....My Observation

Enjoy the basketball season, come football season CC will be back to being the whipping boys of the district. You will assume your role of bad mouthing the coaching staff and calling for his head, just like you did last season.

Fair enough. Mid Tenn, East Tenn, and West Tenn is how most break it down. You are referring to the upper Cumberland area. Talking best players, Eldridge and Henderson again this year. Talking prospects, you may have a point. The other two are younger and have more chaptersto write.

I will continue to call for change where it is needed. In the meantime, enjoy the cellar.

Can't really remember the last time DC was in the cellar. No, we aren't this year. Nice try though. Happy for all of Cannons success. I really am.

I don't even consider our rivalry to be DeKalbs biggest any more. I think that goes to Warren. Just remember that the good times don't always last. In fact they rarely do.

Getting on here and calling a group of hard working kids pathetic is just classless though.

DC is doing whats best for DC. The banter re: DC playing Boyd has run its course. DC's coaching staff and boys are fighting valiantly for the W. Despite the sweat on their brow, after 25+ games they cant even get a pep rally. signs are literally yanked from the student section. yet the Football team has a fire truck sitting at the end zone. A spade is a spade. The hardworking boys and coaches of DC deserve better support than they're getting. Props to CC, LA and the others for where their programs are at. As a pure BB fan its awesome to go to your schools and see the passion, intensity and support for your programs. To go to CC (a shade over 20 miles away) and not be able to find a seat speaks volumes. One school / administration is committed to supporting all the interest and ambitions of their student body / community.DC will fight and claw its way to the end. W or L, it wont be because of a lack of effort. Props to the winning programs, coaches and players but make no mistake and you know this better than an outsider, your success isn't the result of just one class of players. reference the banners that hang from your rafters. if a few extra games against boyd helps feed the coffers, compensate for a lack of genuine support and give the boys a chance to develop then so be it. you guys go fight giants outside your county, we're fighting a giant of our own, sadly ours is right down the hall from where the boys and coaches ply their trade. #eightaa

Well Said !  People you should read this post three times and think what they are writing and get off top players and were Regions Start and end. Teams have good seasons teams have down seasons yes even CC, LA, DC, MC, YI, MTC, UHS.  Come on and think.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
