This is what you call the post Bland era. The guy got ran out of Humboldt for no reason. They now struggle to beat a not so good West Carroll team and get drilled by Milan. Did Humboldt stick with the double wing tonight?

No disrespect to Coach Bland, not saying this was a great move, but not sure getting beat by Milan will answer that question.  Blands team got whipped by Milan as well! Looking back 9 seasons or so, last year looks to be the only win(if the past schedule info is correct). The whippings by Milan has been going on for a while.

Humboldt has been a top tier team in the west for a long while...their highs pretty high, the lows not very low, and I've never heard the faithful question the coaching scheme as they are now. Fans are "just" fans, but those posting in the earlier pages know their football and their football team like outsiders do not.

Losing to a Milan squad who typically made the 3A championship game and played mighty Alcoa tight for the entire game isn't necessarily the same as being humiliated by a yet unproven team with a losing record last season. Bland was dropped like a hot potato for reasons other than conduct or performance...didn't deserve it...and I for one won't shed any tears for the administrators responsible if they catch some heat for it. No ill will toward Reid at all...not his fault if karma rents a room in Humboldt for a while.

And will continue for at least the foreseeable future!! :)

I understand, but it's a lot going on in the boldt!  Even something as simple as the band! When I was there(graduated in 87') we had large numbers compared to what's there now.  Even the demographics of the school, it's just totally different.  People moved to medina and other places, it's just not the same anymore.  We used to be a legit AA school and in all honesty I'm really saddened by everything that's happened. It may be some tough days ahead, but I'm a Viking for life!

Ok, this is my last post on this topic like I said, " in an earlier post, Milan was the better team & Humboldt's WingT offense is terrible but coach Bland is not at Humboldt & he didn't beat Milan when he was the coach". last year was the first time in many years due to Milan having a lot of injuries and a down year that Humboldt won. People act like it was coach Reid's fault that Coach Bland was let go but it wasn't and we have to move on. For coach Reid first year coaching, he did a good job but did make some coaching mistakes like every coach does but also coached two (2) of the best games I've seen in High School football against Union City & could have won both games if it wasn't for UC scoring in the last seconds of both games. So, before you critized Coach Reid at least give the man a chance, this year is going to be a down year due to all the players Humboldt lost but hopefully he will change the offense or it's going to be alot of running clocks. I will still be a Viking fan regardless of what happens this year because not to many programs can say they've had a winnning season most of the last twenty-five (25) years in football & basketball.

I'd like to clarify...probably didn't go into Reid enough in my post, so here it is; I actually feel bad for Coach Reid. I know that lots of people feel as I do about Coach Bland, or anyone that does a stellar job and is "swallowed up" by politics. Reid got his shot at a renowned program as the result of Bland's shoddy treatment, so sentiment isn't in his favor. None of this is Reid's fault, and he should be allowed to be happy for his opportunity without the shadow of Coach Bland on the program. I tried to distinguish my feelings about the administrators from those about Coach Reid, but was pretty short. Hope that helps.

    • A lot of people don’t realize how valuable JMO was. QB, safety, punter and holder on pat’s. Kid did it all. I fully believe if he was healthy Dburg would have made it to the ship last year.
    • If Dyersburg quarterback who is also starting safety hadn’t got hurt it would of another blowout
    • For perspective the county school I’m associated and graduated from only has 7,600 people in the entire county with a median age of roughly 47. That’s not very many 14-18 year olds to choose from. I think the football team had 25-28 kids or around there.  On the other hand Shelby County has 916,000+ with a median age of 36. This isn’t just about Shelby county, but all the big ones with huge economic advantages!  An urban/rural split would benefit tons of smaller schools that have to compete with counties with 120x the amount of people. Especially the ones who can pick and choose their players from a pool like that!   I also agree with Pujo about charter and magnets and they will eventually be phased into the private divisions because it is obviously an advantage plus all the funding! Add that county schools can’t go recruit outside of their county like charters and magnets!
    • They should be starting next week and go from there.  They never do Spring Practice in April
