It's BOUT time they let my boy lose. . They had another guy as the return man for whateva reason. He should be leading the league rite now after the year he had last year. that is what Sims does bro, the kid is awesome. .I just can't believe they let Gerald Perry get away. . I'm just finding out he's at Rhodes college now. .. he caught as many balls as anybody in there camp even in the spring game but they had him so far down the depth chart he was almost off the team so he transferred is the word I got... heck no wonder they struggling.

Sims had an awesome night - he is one heck of an athlete!

My bad guys - I thought this was a forum to promote discussion of issues relating to high school football in the State of Tennessee.  The topic was why the Memphis teams do not do as well as some of the "East Tennessee" teams.  Most of the discussion was regarding the perceived shortcomings of specific Memphis schools.

I have noticed that in D1 football, many of the championships seem to be won either by privates or by open-zoned publics.  The D1 privates have a draconian multiplier applied to their classification enrollment and they are often derided on these boards for a perceived unfair advantage every time one of them wins a gold ball.  I tried to start a discussion regarding what effect, if any, the open-zoned aspect has on a team's competitiveness.  I think this is a legitimate topic for discussion.

I am now coming to understand that the reason this topic is not discussed is because to do so subjects one to immediate ridicule and derision from supporters of certain teams.  Moreover, and worse, it subjects the poster's program to outrageous and unjustified attacks.  I never stated that the open-zoned aspect is the only, or primary, reason why a few schools continually win championships, nor did I ever disrespect any particular program (read what I actually typed, without inserting the suspect motivations which some of you attribute to me).  Unfortunately, that doesn't stop attacks on a school that I support, even though my school has absolutely nothing to do with this topic.

I give up.  I will no longer seek to raise what I consider to be a valid topic for discussion on these boards; the open-zoned people have declared the subject off limits and I guess everyone else is fine with that.

I already know! He is the definition of a return specialist, I'm just glad he's getting the exposure he deserves. He has always been my favorite player from that special 2012 class. I was sure wondering where Perry went. Suprised that he picked Rhodes College tho, would've thougt he'd pick a tsu or swac school but I'm sure he'll do well! I look forward to seeing Sims play on Sundays in the near future, he's that good

I think this topic was originally intended to make others around the state aware that although Memphis is a traditional basketball town, the football programs here are improving and the competition within the city this year is much better that it has been in the past. Whitehaven is playing all local teams this year and since we're not posting blowouts every week like some expect we should be doing we've somehow "fallen off". I'm not sure how the zoning and east vs west came about but it brought the whole state on board to chime in and instead of having a mature discussion it seemed to turn into childish bickering. But I say speak your mind all this is opinion based, there is no right or wrong... Edited by Havengrad04

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
