BGIM - Week 6 (Torrential Twelve)

(All games are played on Friday, October 3, except for East vs Melrose)

Game 1: Cordova @ Bartlett

Game 2: St. Benedict @ Briarcrest

Game 3: Brighton @ Munford

Game 4: MUS @ CBHS

Game 5: Craigmont vs Trezevant (Fairgrounds)

Game 6: East vs Melrose (Fairgrounds, Sat. Oct. 4)

Game 7: FACS @ ECS

Game 8: Northpoint Christian @ Harding

Game 9: Hillcrest @ BTW

Game 10: Southwind @ Houston

Game 11: Leake Co. (MS) @ Lausanne

Game 12: TRA @ USJ

Game 1: Cordova

Analysis: Big District 14 Game between two 6A programs.  Cordova is 3-3 and Bartlett is 2-3. The loser may miss the play-offs.Cordova is just playing better right now.

Game 2: St. Benedict

Analysis: Big D-2, 2-AA West game for playoff seeding. St. Benedict has been more impressive this season. They continue with the forward progress.

[broadcast on WHBQ-AM 560 at 6:30 PM]

Game 3: Munford

Analysis: Big District 13 game between an up and coming 5A program and the lone 6A program in that district. Munford's 'D' will prove to be the difference playing a big game with the home crowd's support. Munford goes to be 6-1.

[broadcast on WKBQ-FM 93.5 at 6:45 PM]

Game 4: MUS

Analysis: Big D-2, 2-AA West game for seeding. The game is at CBHS. Both teams are statistically similar offensively, numbers wise. Both have had losses to some pretty good programs. Colton Neel (129 Car/ 728 yds/ 5.6 yds/Car / 11 TD) is doing his thing for MUS. The MUS QB, Marcus Evans, is putting up decent numbers to have him included as one of the top 25 QB's in the City statistically going ... 48 of 93 (52%) for 615 yds with 5 TDs and 6 INTs. CBHS is doing it on the gound mostly with Austin Lee (53 Car/ 389 yds/ 7.3 yds/Car/ 3 TD) and Walker Grisanti (52 Car/ 392 yds/ 7.5 yds/Car/ 6 TD). MUS just has more weapons, however, they don't want to grind it out with CBHS. That may prove fatal.

[broadcast on WPGF-FM 87.7 at 6:30 PM AND on WMC-AM 790 at 6:45 PM]

Game 5: Trezevant

Analysis: Big District 16-AA game between the premier 4A teams in that district. This game determines play-off seeding which will mean home field advantage during the post season. Craigmont is 5-0. Trezevant is 5-1. Both have clobbered fellow District 16-AA teams Douglass, Westwwod, and Fairley. The difference being that Trezevant beat a decent to fair 6A Southwind (2-3) team handily, and went to Region 1 Class 6A MS power Southaven (5-1) and lost by one ponit. Craigmont has beat 6A Wooddale (1-6) and 5A Raleigh Egypt (1-5). Craigmont does most of it's damage through the air. Trezevant is ground and pound. Craigmont's QB has just put up some ridiculous numbers. Andrew McIntyre is 59 of 94 (63%) for 1196 yds with 21 TDs and 1 INT on the year. (As of Oct. 1 stats) Trezevant's RB, Jamal Jones has done well ... (73 Car/ 653 yds/ 8.9 yds/Car / 9 TD). Both defenses are tops in the City in points allowed. But Trezevant has the topped rank defense in the City only allowing 56 yds/gm. Craigmont is 9th at 199 yds/gm.

[broadcast on WQOX-FM 88.5 at 7:00 PM]

Game 6: East

Analysis: East and Melrose are putting up a lot of points. Melrose is putting up 40 ppg while East is putting up 38 ppg. East has just done it against better competiton. East aslo has the top RB in the city in Devante Turner. (I've already posted is stats in another thread) It's the East defense, however that sets them apart. East currently has the 7th ranked defense in the City only allowing 182 yds/gm. They have one DB, Kyland Tate, who has already picked off 5 passes and another, Teddrick McGhee, who has picked off 3. While Melrose has the 11th ranked defense that is only allowing 212 yds/gm. Melrose amasses most of it's yards through the air. Their QB, Cedrick Crawford is 73 of 111 (66%) for 1410 yds with 16 TDs and 2 INTs on the year. They have two WRs that are torching the City. Jonathan Johnson  is the 4th leading receiver in the City with 32 catches for 652 yds for and ave. of 20 yds/catch with 7 TDsTony Pollard is 38th receiver on the list with 15 catches for 352 yds for an ave. of 23.5 yds/catch with 6 TDs. Can the East 'D' slow down the Melrose passing attack more so then what the Melrose 'D' must do to stop the East running game? I think East will prevail in this one. It may be closer then what some people think.

Game 7:  ECS

Analysis: This is a D2-A, West 1 game that has post season ramifications. FACS is 4-1 (0-1). ECS is 5-1 (2-0). Every team in the division has a winning record. ECS, however is 102 to 33 point for/points against in division play. FACS is 34 to 35 in the same category. Add to the fact that this is a home game for ECS leads me to think that they will win.

Game 8: Harding

Analysis: This is another D2-A, West 1 game that will determine seeding for the post season. Harding is 4-2 on the season. Northpoint is 5-1. The game is at Harding. Northpoint's schedule has not been as challenging as Harding's and I think that pays off in the long run.

Game 9: Hillcrest

Analysis: This is a District 16-A game between two (2) of the seven (7) 2A teams in that eight (8) team district. It is the only team in that district that is five hundred on the year. Hilcrest is 3-3 with those three victories over district opponents. BTW is 1-5 on the season with it's lone victory over a fellow district opponent. Mitchell may be the class of this district, but Hillcrest is doing work in district. They continue to win and go to 4-3 on the season.

Game 10: Houston

Analysis: Big District 15-AAA game between two of the five 6A teams in that district. This game has post season seeding ramifications. Houston is 6-0 on the season. They have been sliding under the radar for the most part. They are 2-0 in district with wins over 6A Wooddale and 6A Germantown. Southwind is 2-3 on the season. One of the three losses is a district loss to 5A Ridgeway. The other two are OOD losses to 5A East and 4A Trezevant. Houston has beat six (6) 6A teams. However, these six (6) 6A teams are a combined 9-26. Their strongest opponent to date is Cordova, who at 3-3, is playing for their play-off lives in District 14. The schedule is the schedule, and they can't help that. However, i don't think Houston has been tested. I don't think the competition that they have played is on par with who Southwind has played. However, the three losses that Southwind took were not competative. They got shallacked in all three. East beat them by 27 ... almot put 50 points on them. Trezevant and Ridgeway held them to one TD each and then each one turned around and put 40 or more on them.

Game 11: Lausanne

Analysis: Leake County is a 4-2, Division 6 Class 2A Mississippi team (Think of a Hillcrest, Carver sized school). The two losses came when they stepped up in class and played two Class 4A Mississippi teams (Think Craigmont, Trezevant sized schools). The four wins came at the expense of OOD games against Class 2A and below competition. One blow-out (Think Northside sized school), two victories by two points or less, and a game they won by 2 TDs. The game is being played at Lausanne. The team is traveling from a school in MS that is set geographically in Division 6. I know the north MS teams are in Region/Division 1. I think this team has a nice distance to travel. Lausanne goes to 4-2 on the season.

Game 12: USJ

Analysis: This is a D-2, A West-1 game. Again, play-off ramifications. Both teams are 4-2 on the season. One common opponent ... Fayette Acadamey (0-5). TRA beat them by 15 at home. USJ went to their place and beat them by 21. It's feast or famine with both teams. When they lose ... they lose by 21 or more points. When they win ... it's similar ... 20 points or more. I'm going with the home team because they don't have to travel.

That's it for me.
