Do they not play a 3A schedule right now??

No, all sports other than football play either A, AA or AAA. For example, in basketball, Class 'A' would be made up of the football '1A' and '2A" teams, Class 'AA' would be 3A and 4A teams and class 'AAA' would be 5A and 6A teams.

TSSAA likes to complicate things!

It's harder to make big changes in the non-football sports, since they play throughout the week and can't really travel except on Friday and the weekends (except in the postseason and in holiday tournaments).

AlcoaBasketball we've had some good discussions on the T, but I have to wonder about moving down to 2A. Grant it you guys will play more district games but aren't you concerned about colleges recruiting your players when you play inferior competition? I'm not sure what the rest of the state will look like in 2A, but from what I've read they don't seem to offer much. When Catholic was in 5A my son was in 8th grade and I was looking forward to him playing those teams because I felt colleges would see him play against good competition. We were moved to 4A but we played you guys CAK, Webb, and eventually Fulton in the playoffs and we started to hear from colleges because of the competition he faced. I know you guys will play Maryville, and you're looking at 7 districts games who else will you play? By the way there's nothing wrong with playing where you placed. I think it's sad that teams were waiting for you and Maryville to announce where you would play before deciding where to play. Teams need to coach their kids up instead of running from competition. Rankin shouldn't have to tell anyone what he's doing.

You're right, Rankin shouldn't, so he tricked some teams into staying in 3A that would have avoided Alcoa otherwise. LOL

Now I wonder if Matthews and Rankin will continue our rivalry.

I wouldn't call it a rivalry you guys and CAK are rivals, but I've heard that Matthews has contacted Maryville about playing next year. I was told that CAK didn't want to play next year and there are some rumors going around that Webb is thinking about canceling the series.  I can't see their alumni going for that.  I'm thinking that Catholic will play 7 districts games next year (Anderson Co, Carter, Central, Fulton, Grainger, Seymour and Union Co.)  so that would leave the Irish with 3 non district games. I was under the impression that the Bishop mandated that Notre Dame and Catholic play and if we play Webb that leaves only one district game.

Webb and Catholic will NEVER be canceled. Webb would be nothing short of cowardly to back out now, and I don't think they will.

District 4-AA was fun while it lasted, though.

Excuse my ignorance i do know that,Alcoa doesnt play the teams we do (1A Greenback),what i was trying to imply is they do play teams (2A) that are equal to or better than them in the other sports correct? So they dont have or need to change that. Edited by orngnblk

From what I was told the TSSAA is only changing football districts, all other sports will continue as is for 2 years.  When the current cycle ends they will probably re-do the districts in all sports.
