Oakland by 7?

I might be too optimistic... but I think Mt Juliet plays the best ball they have played all year... still might not even be in the same ball park.. Oakland is a stout bunch and you gotta respect the heck out of their team and coaches, but I think it has the possibilities to be a better game than expected. That's all I am trying to say. Mt Juliet has been pretty good this year and their receiving core is consistent. I haven't seen their run game enough in the last weeks  to know if they will be made one dimensional or not. With Oakland it could get real ugly real quick for MJ, they are that good, but I think Mt Juliet will keep their mistakes to a minimum and hang around for a little while and at a minimum keep it interesting for a few.

Oakland was under capacity for years. Students were not required to take I B classes. There is nothing "cheating" about that. Anybody who didn't want to attend Smyrna or LaVergne could get a transcript sent to the OHS office and if the school felt they were strong academically and didn't cause trouble, they had the option to transfer. Many of them didn't even play sports.

Again, you have shown a lean toward not having a clue.

A better question might be why don't you pull for the other teams in the district when they play outsiders in the playoffs? You seem to not make much sense. I pulled for BHS lots of time both in the regular season and playoffs and sat on that side and endured the "singing" of a number of different "karaoke girls" as people have called them.

Wait are you saying that Rutherford county is open zone?

Oakland and Eagleville were somewhat open zone at one time.  That has probably changed as the population has grown and the enrollments have been redistributed.  Didn't they have to add on to Eagleville because it quickly went from uncrowded to crowded?

Out of zone to Oakland is still available for I B...

quote:

"Students that live outside the OHS school zone can apply for a zone exemption.  Those forms are available in April.  All students interested in pursuing an IB diploma will be given a zone exemption.  Rutherford County School Board has also approved transportation to out of zone students participating in the IB program."

I'm not 100% on this but pretty sure - if your kids are zoned to LHS or Smyrna (i.e. your address is on the east side of I-24) there may have been a form letter sent out saying that moving forward they can pretty much be sure that is where they will be going. (In whatever verbiage they used to convey the point).  At least that is what people were saying. (unless they are going to go after the I B curriculum)

If a student qualifys academically for the IB program which is a very high level of learning a student can apply to go to Oakland. We had about 15-20 graduate last year in the program. So the answer is no for open zoning. Selective academically open yes. Not sure if limited to Rutherford county. Hope that helps.

True, but the IB program doesn't kick in until you are already in school there.  Soph. year maybe, but it used to be Junior year.  The thing is, all you have to do is say you are wanting to be in the IB program, and you have your zone exemption.  When it comes time to apply/get admitted, if you don't have the grades or scores then you don't make it in the IB program.  However, they don't kick those kids back to their original zones if they don't qualify.

    • You are so correct!  It’s really 99.9% of academia want to change to way that education is not only taught but the way it is viewed.  The pendulum has definitely swung as far to the left as possible and eventually will swing to the right much too far.  I have always  said that politics and one’s personal religious views need to stay out of education,  but for the last 40 years education has been running full throttle to what we have today.  If the social experiment that we are currently experiencing continues it is only a matter of time before the public school system in the USA completely collapses and all kids attend private schools or even worse don’t go to school.
    • He was a bruise but Aaron Dykes is HVA’s best RB ever.
    • I am talking about what they both did for their team. They both carried their team for four years while they were both there. I wasn’t really comparing them that would be unfair. Bishop is on a level of his own.
    • Dorian Eskridge had a great Junior year, highlighted by a great game to lead HVA to an upset win at OR that year. I think that was 2010. In 2011 OR won at HVA. OR had a real good QB that year l think. Dorian Eskridge had a great senior year also. He always played hard from the DCM videos l saw.
    • It seems we lost a ton to graduation. We shall see how it shapes up for 2024.
