Phillips is great and their defense has been good all year.  But you also have to look at the teams they played.  Hunters Lane, Hillwood, Antioch, Glencliff, Cane Ridge.  Not really world beaters.  Kenwood and Springfield not overwhelming on offense either.  I'm just saying that Shelbyville is probably the best team they've played this year so far.... it is the 3rd round of the playoffs.

Good assessment.  Although none of those teams are world beaters, you have to remember the athletes each one of those teams puts on the field.  That is not to be confused with the quality of the team as a whole but simply the athletes themselves.  I have a hard time believing that Shelbyville has seen the athletes they're fixing to see on Friday night.  Let's not forget that their district consists of Lawerence Co. Lincoln Co, Tullahoma, and Franklin Co.......I haven't heard of any outstanding athletes any of them field.  Beech may be a little better than any of those mentioned.  I just think the speed of the game is about to get too fast for them.

Here's some season stats:

Shelbyville  OF: 36ppg  DEF: 27ppg

Hillsboro     OF: 40ppg  DEF:   9ppg

Offensive production is close enough to be called similar. But Shelbyville's defense looks suspect.  They're giving up three times as many points. And if you only count the two playoffs games The Golden Eagles are still giving up 27ppg while the Burros are giving up 10ppg. Again three times as many. All teams at this stage should be capable of scoring. The key is being able to stop the other team from scoring.

I wasn't saying that shelbyville will beat hillsboro. I was saying that Eddings wasn't the third best tailback on the field against beech. Yes they had more yards than he did that night but that is because Shelbyville can pass also. Beech... Not so much. Their leading receiver is their quarterback!! Edited by Jdjones767676

You're proving my point.  The fact that Beech can't throw it a lick makes what their rb's did even more impressive.  Put your guy in Beech's backfield all year and his stats look a lot different.  He's a fine high school football player, but to say he's one of the best in the state is quite a stretch.  I was more impressed with your qb than your tb.  Ya'll are just lucky Beech didn't run the play where the qb passes it to himself.  That was their most effective pass play all year. ;)

My post wasn't an attempt to refute your assertion regarding Shelbyville's RB. You might have noted that I didn't quote that post in that case. What I was doing was using your theme of using the season's statistics to dampen the notion by some fans that Shelbyville will beat Hillsboro, or at least get in a shooting match with them. These fans, like most, only seem tolook at the offensive output, and ignore the defensive capablities. It may be that I'm a bit bias because I was on the defensive side of the ball. But I truly believe that defense wins championships.

Agree! My take on the current state of high school football is high powered offenses are a dime a dozen.  The teams that will really stand out are the few that can play a little D.  I haven't seen a good defense all year.

    • This whole situation is bonkers. You don’t just kick your star player off the team just because you heard them say the F word; the coach definitely had something against the player, or somebody definitely did. Also, nobody has brought up the idea that the school blackmailed the college to get the college to withdraw the scholarship offer, not to mention that the coach who kicked her off is no longer even with the program; they were fired. I think this is a pretty easy lawsuit. I don’t know if she should deserve that much money, but I think she should get enough money for a full-ride scholarship if she cannot get one after this situation.
    • Oh yeah, I’m sure you are different people just always on the same thread for some reason, always agreeing with each other, perhaps just a bunch of dorks who would like to ###### and moan about high school football coaches do a lot of other students, so you make a football team and get a yell at them. When they do something wrong, but I’m sure you don’t like that, do you?   and I’m sure I’m aware of where you get information. A teacher who was on the coaching staff but was fired after the new coaching and staff came in and realized he actually had to start taking his assistant job a little bit more seriously than just wanting to make a little extra cash on the side, hardly even showing up to most practices, should’ve left with his buddy to go to Farragut. I’m sure he could get him a defensive coaching job, but I doubt he will be there in three years. Looking at the way Farragut is currently going.
    • It may be hard to believe but there’s more people than me that think you guys are a bunch of losers.    I’m sure the coaching staff, yourself included, cursed at a bunch of high school students. Nobody could name more than 3 coaches on staff due to the constant turnover.
    • That's complete BS.  Nobody at ACHS has access to CHS student records unless a transfer is made from CHS to ACHS.
    • Trez's last scandal has died down, so I guess this is there opportunity to be the best 4A team playing in 2A a la Sissy MTN.  At least they won't be in a Z-district with 1a teams in the regular season.
