Spring practise has begun in UC and even though I have not seen the team in action I have heard that these boys are more "intense" than the 2014 team. I was like "Whu?" How can this be? I hear tell that these kids feel like they have more to prove because of the last 2 years. They don't want to be the first team to "Not" make it back to the title. Oh well there is a long long season to get through first and so many things can happen in 1A ball where players have to play Iron Man football. I like the sound of that though.

They still have a football program in Union City? Figured they quit while on top. lol How's that for brimming with confidence? Actually, my opinion (we all know what they are like) is Dresden will be much better than last year, I think this year will be a more competitive game with UC. We don't have the speed to beat a UC or Peabody. I'm worried Winn wont have enough time to work his magic till our line develops.Time will tell for sure.

I'll be a UC fan if they make it east again. As much as it hurts!!!!

Yso you can keep on dreaming. UC football will be here for a long time to come. I will have a more personal intrest this season since my boy will be on the team. Not sure how much time he will get on the field but he will be in the Purple and Gold uniform. Speed is what you can expect from UC. Fast on both sides of the ball. Like I said earlier.....INTENSITY. Don't ask me why. Coach Bowling just has these boys focused.

:roflol:@ losing to Lake County

yall keep on thinking UC can't lose to Lake Co.Could depend on the LC defense.UC Had better make sure District MVP and possibly Mr.Football candidate Stavonski  Wilkes doesn't run wild.Darius Johnson also has a lot of speed at quarterback.Wilkes had around 2, 000 yards last year with several 300 yard games.Had a lot called back. Can break a 70 yarder on any play. Also hear he has offers from Miss, St, Memphis, and must be pretty smart as I'm hearing Harvard and Yale as well.Just a few I have heard. And I think he had about 175 yards or close against UC last year,.And I, m not buying that this years team will be better than last year or the year before.UC will lose to Trenton for sure and possibly LC and Dresden

Bigster Bigster Bigster. The One thing I can say thing for you and  is "You are consistent". I know Wilkes is a great athlete and I am thrilled he is getting the looks from those schoold he deserves. He did have a good game against us with the majority coming on one long run. with all that said and done, what was the final score? I can't remember what LC had on the board but UC had 63 points. I think that says it all. I hope Wilkes gets all he deserves to get whether it be at the district, region or state level. One thing to bare in mind when it comes to LC and UC. After the way your foolish coach rallied against our team by getting other coaches in the district not to vote for any UC players at the District level, will be a sore spot for the Tornadoes for a long time coming. Now you can come back and say it's not true but we know that it is. So thank your coach for the butt whoopin LC will get once again this season. Now for you, keep thinking UC will have a huge drop off this year and you will be crying in your beer again.

Just remember a few years back,Lake Co scored more points against Union City than any Single A school ever has.About 60 points in a butt whooping.and do you know how your comment sounds. You're basically saying a coach could influence other coaches  and not only that .are saying they have no intergrity.I on the other hand would tend to believe it's because all the same coaches in the district that saw Wilkes and The UC players were more impressed by Wilkes when they played. For instance,Had over 300 hundred yards against Humboldt,Would you not think that coach was impressed by Wilkes.Same against Gibson Co and some other schools.Pioneer said he thought wilkes was as good as Jones  from Crockett Co ,who was a Mr.Football candidate. So just maybe on the nights the other teams and coaches watched ,were more impressed by Wilkes instead of someone running a couple yards at a time and maybe scoring 4 touchdowns in a game from only 4 yards out.Wilkes had more yards, more exciting and as many if not more touchdowns.Had about 6 touchdowns against Bruceton and over 300 yards. On long runs. Not 5 yards..You just made yourself look foolish with that comment about the integrity of the other coaches.Take the blinders off.

Alright alright. I said Wilkes is deserving of everything he gets. Did I not? He is Awesome. Please don't be like the other 2 or 3 LC posters who come to our threads and make everything they say about LC. Bigster start a Wilkes Thread. As far as your coach is concerned it wasn't Wilkes that I was talking about. The only player from UC who made the All District Team was our kicker. Now tell me how that happens. A team that went back to back state Champions and only the kicker makes All District? Well it may be and does sound far fetched but either way our players believe that your coach had a hand in it. If they believe it, that's all that matters as far as getting ready to play LC is concerned. I'm sure no one from UC will tell them diffrent  Get ready.

I knew Wilkes was voted MVP but didnt realize Henry or none of the other great UC players didnt earn all district. If that is true, and only the kicker than something was bad wrong.Should have had at least 7 or 8 all district from the UC team alone,if not more.At least on the all district team.I think LC will give UC a test offensively. Not sure about on defense. But will UC be as good offensively as in past couple years. If not,Lake co should hold their own with the offensive firepower.

Bigster, I did not hear the LC coach personally but some very reliable sources said it was so. He was mad about the scores being so high. But what are you supposed to do when your starting offense has 5 or 6 one play drives and scores on all of them? Next do you tell the second team players not to score if they get a chance? I think we have both been on this side of the scoring issue before. I don't like blowouts. They are boring. It is a fact that only the UC kicker made the All District team last year and the catalyst behind it was the LC coach. So whether it's true or not our players believe that it is. They will have no problem gettingready for the Falcons. Back to back State Champs and only the Kicker gets recognition from thier own district. Like you said something is wrong.

    • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.
    • Dyersburg scrimmaged South Gibson last week
    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
    • No yellow stripes on the rug last night. Biggest crowd I’ve seen at 825 since the alco debacle.
