Two old friends meet again to see which team will wrestle for 3rd and 4th. Great Job for Tennessee High and Science Hill both teams are top 6 teams in the state.

I have to say the mutual respect and relationships between parents coaches and some of the kids in this matchup make it bittersweet.  No team in the region we would rather share the stage with from this parents perspective I assure you!  Best of luck Region 1!

Great Job to both Tennessee High and Science Hill. Two teams in the top 6 is a really good showing for Region 1.  Tennessee High did an excellent job with a smaller team and all the holes in the lineup this year finding a way to finish above most peoples expectations.  Science Hill what a great job with a young team, looks good for the future for the Hill.  Both of these teams help the rest of us in Region 1 to be better prepared individually for States and provide the blueprint on how to be successful in the state of Tennessee.  Great Job again to all Coaches and Kids on these two teams.

Amazing and gratifying for these two teams is probably not stated well enough!  These two teams had serious challenges compared to the field one in age and the other with holes in the lineup.  It is fair two say the competitive streak these two bring out in each other has helped lead to this outstanding result.  Iron sharpening iron!  Yep they are both ready to be among the top teams in the state, keep building guys! proud of both teams!

I agree 100% both teams did great. I believe this should show everyone Region 1 can be real contenders for years to come.

Don't forget that a very tough young Greeneville team also took 4th in A/AA while Alcoa and Pigeon Forge took 3rd and 2nd place respectably from Region 1 A/AA while I know Pigeon Forge and Alcoa wouldn't be Region 1 in Big School it does speak volumes to the marked improvement of teams from Knoxville going East into the Tri Cities. Gibbs was also a contender for Big School making it to the same round as Science Hill. This is a stark contrast of where wrestling was 10 years ago in TN and while the Bradley's, Soddy's, Wilson Central's and Cleveland's of the state are still the mark of the best in public school I believe we are seeing the gap close. I can't help but think what we are seeing at the middle schools of most of the Knoxville and Tri Cities Schools has something to do with that.

You are correct, the gap is closing. Congrats to Greeneville. Coach Shelton has done a good job up there. The gap will never fully close until a couple of things happen. One is have a sucessful college team in the area. King is not cutting it compared to UTC. It also helps a former Cleveland coach is at UTC. The other is more support in the community as a whole for wrestling. There seems to be flawed logic that a comminity can be around one sport per season, but that is not the case. SHHS and Tennessee High have support from the school systems to some degree as well as the student body. I know that may not be the only schools getting support, but those are the ones I know about. It is more than the coaches, wrestlers, and parents. Wrestling is a sport that is growing, but it can grow a lot more IF people are behind the sport. Since the support is not there, the Tri-Cities area may want to consider doing open gym twice a week taking turns where they are located and COACHES, WRESTLERS, PARENTS get more involved.

    • Im asking everyone to keep roy whited and his family in your prayers. Coach whited won back to back state championships at white county in 98-99. He is very well liked and respected in this area. For those of you that dont know he went missing 3 days ago. No one knows where he is. His truck was found in a rural part of the county. Thanks again. We are all very concerned.
    • West would be a good team to get behind if they can pull it off again like last year. That championship game last year was awesome.
    • I say that because he stepped out of a MUCH better situation on his own than he would see at least his first 3 years at DCA and it would take at least that much to bring him back to coaching. There are other fish in the sea, but again money talks. Need to fix the girls hoops too. Now I'll try again. Who has Pierce locked in for his staff? Hearing a McGavock man but not the Iceman.
    • I’ve heard mostly good things from the gridiron. Lots of optimism. It sounds like the portal has mostly helped, though there are a few expected defections. Comeback year!
    • Rudesell 1 year at Crockett. Coach Tate 2 weeks a Bradford. South Gibson supposedly going with jcs middle school coach. Which isn’t who I thought would get it, I know the top 2 was between him and Obion girls head coach.
