Uninteresting Year

How about just a duals meet that has more than half the weight classes actually wrestle vs the endless string of forfeits with maybe 3 real wrestling matches that has become the norm this year ? TSSA could help by expanding co-op opportunities and encouraging schools with a handful of wrestlers to join up with others in a similar position.

I think another split is in order. It would add more excitement as well.

Yes, have another split and it will translate into 50 more schools adding wrestling in Tennessee. The problem is that of those 50 new schools less than 10% will be able to fill a complete lineup. The only good thing that would come out of another division is the T$$AA would get more money. Edited by cbg

Build it and they will come. More wrestlers, more coaches and more referees. All we need is another split!!!

Youre joking right, the last thing we need is another split. If you want interesting get rid of all the divisions and everybody wrestle together, that'd make for an interesting season.

So you don't think if we split more quality coaches, referees and wrestlers will appear out of nowhere? I thought the split would increase participation and in turn the quality of wrestling in TN.

IMO the 'excitement' doesn't seem to be there for a few of reasons

1) The facilities for the championship event are a complete joke

2) The competition is too thinned out. No wonder the rankings aren't as 'exciting'. In D2 and 1AA there aren't even enough kids to rank in some of the weight classes. In 1AA ( and D2) you could conceivable have a wrestler win 1 match and place 6th. That's combined from Region and State. (Only 4 wrestlers in his weight class at region and have the bye fall right).

You don't think another split would increase excitement? Just think of all the kids wanting to wrestle now because you could be a state medalist with just 1 win!

Uninteresting?

Seeing the re-emergence of the Bear Nation has spiced things up recently. +them wrestling ANYONE ANYWHERE!

Sounds like some of you missed the Cleveland Duals last December

Show up at Baylor's gymnasium about 6:00 tomorrow find a way in... so you can feel the atmosphere of their last regular season match UP at 7:30. Should be within 5-10 pts depending on unpredictable variables, But one thing's forsure... IT WILL GET LOUD!

The finals between Baylor and Ryan will not be uninteresting at the Cow Palace.

... as well both D1 A & AA Finals

Tennessee seems a bit flat at some matches and tournaments the last year or two, especially where feeders are struggling. Let's Consider Putting All Wrestlers in ONE Individual Tournament and separate team points by division to allow for the team separation objective... 6,000+ will be in attendance for the finals

Best for individual wrestlers

The absence of dual meets has really hurt the interest in HS wrestling. It is the dual meet that creates a fan-following, especially the students. No one but parents will seat through an entire tournament, leaving as their kids are eliminated. This is true in college as well. Alabama is the worst, with kids having as many as 80 matches in a year, 10 matches per weekend sometimes.
