UCM-'There you go again showing your bias toward CHS.  Kids can transfer to UHS and you say nothing about it, but kids transfer to CHS and you spout off.  I am anxious to see the CAVS this year.  They have been dealt a hand to play big boy ball.  We will see if they are ready or not.  I am very excited to see the competition on the field in practice, scrimmages, and games. I have heard the team has a lot numbers playing, and hope that equals a lot of talent. However, I am not crazy enough to think that Cookeville's numbers/talent should equal Murfreesboro's numbers/talent.  We shall see.  One thing that I am crazy enough to say is that CHS will always have people transfer in and out.  If they can or will play, and if they do or do not have talent remains to be seen.  I will also say that UCM will forever bash and talk negative about Cookeville.  I am sure Coach Maynord will not turn down any student/athlete that wants to be dedicated to the CHS football team.  I wish the Cavs luck this coming season!

where did I bash Cookeville? I said they will go 6-4 or 7-3. That's a higher win total than most expect. I didn't bash any transfer, just bashed a Warren County dad for shopping his kid around. I mean one transer in a 4 year span should be enough. As far as numbers, CHS is as big or bigger than any school on their schedule. Talent wise they may be a little lacking compared to the boro schools....but adding 3 transfers, two of which are D-1 level, should close that gap or eliminate it. Seigal is down from where they were in 2012-13. Riveradle hasn't been a power since Rankin. Smyrna is way down from when they were winning championships. Blackman and Oakland both have first years coaches. This district is there for the taking for CHS. Now is the time, no excuses. Edited by UpperCumberlandMan

You have constantly been negative toward CHS.  You need to decide it Gabe is D1 or not.  One day he is one day he isn't.  I will say that you have been constantly positive about Vic (hard not to be).  The new QB, time will tell.  Yes Cookeville has a big enrollment.  That is about it.  There are the same amount of offers, or a lot more offers on the table in the Boro.  If you are the football guru that you say you are, then you would know that.  One, two, or three men do not make up a football team.  It takes 11 on each play.  What I am looking to see is if this Cookeville team plays with heart, passion, and desire that some of the the others have not.  If that happens them maybe they can go to the Boro and make some noise.  Also on the Boro, Riverdale has the most returning.   Smyrna has the second most.  Blackman and Oakland have new coaches, but Oakland probably still has the most overall talent.  Siegel was down last year, and should bounce back a little this year.  CHS is playing with a brand new group of players than the regular joe's from the UC area.  They better decide it is time to play.  Myself, I will hide and watch and see what happens.  I will defend my Alma Mater, and kids, and coaches when you spit venom at them.  They are not pros.  I do need you to go ahead and pick which band wagon that you will jump on this year.  UHS or LA.

I live in Overton Co, but think both UHS and LA will win their respective districts and at least go 2 rounds or more deep in the playoffs. Now, as I said before...I went and played at Riverdale. I call it like I see it with them the same as I do with CHS. Riverdale won't be a huge factor to go deep in the playoffs in my opinion. I don't agree with you on the lack of talent at CHS. Very simular kids as Maryville both in demographics and abilities. Politics is what seperates those two programs. And at the HS level, 1-3 added players can make a huge difference specially when you have a base of 2700 students. Look at Beech Hurd's soph and jr season, the after hew got hurt game 1 his senior season. They barley made the playoffs. If Angel is a top 100 player and 4star kid as some think, it will show his senior season verse good competition. If he cant be very affective in Tennessee at the HS level(huge stats), he won't be good verse kids from Ga and FL at the SEC level. And yes I do like Vic, his on the field production is evident. UCM man.  You might want to check the recruiting sites.  Gabe is on the outside of the top 200 looking in on all sites.  He is ranked a 4 star.  Hurd was one of 3 RB ranked as a 5 star.  That means he's projected to start day one of college and make it pro.  4 Star is much different from 5 star.  Gabe will not have huge stats.  He will be a part of the CHS team on Offense, Defense, and Special Teams.  They will not feature him.  Hopefully the passing game will improve so he will have more of an opportunity to do what he is being recruited for.  We will see.  Until then he will do what the coaches ask of him, Gabe is a good HS football player.  We will see if he is a good college football player.  I am sure that he will improve from last year being that he wasn't completely healthy until mid August and was learning a new system on the fly.  I honestly hope to see Vic do something other than run the ball this year.  Defense/Special Teams.  That is where he will be needed to step up.  Heck I believe you could have run through some of those holes and teams that they played last year.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
