Give an opinion..............about new playoffs

I coached a while. and I do think the new playoff format is much better than the previous mish-mash for Classes 1-5.............now I do think we have too many classes for a state this size; but we all know why, and that is not going to change...........but I am wandering off my original question............

The play-off set up in 6A; is that all go to the post-season (looks appealing at first glance)................but here is the possible that is staring us right in the face. There is a very excellent chance that for the first time in TSSAA history; a team can go 0-11 in actual played games.

In the Middle TN area, I see (2) teams with a great chance of having that horrible outcome............Antioch and Warren Co.

If Antioch does not beat Lebanon they will probably go 0-10. I think Warren Co. has already played their winnable games; they have Sequathie Co. (sp), but heck they are 4-0!

Now to add insult to injury.............they will have to get on a bus in week 11, and travel halfway across the state for an absolute butt-whipping................whoa I am not finished.

The TSSAA provides minimal expense money; so long trip, small following crowd, will probably get mauled when you get there, and it will COST those schools a bundle to make this sacrifical pilgrimage that is the 6A play-offs + (more insult to injury)......you have had a bad season at 0-10; your home gates have probably been less than stellar.

My solution........

1.) Only top 4 go in each 6A region (total of 16 for state)

2.) 6A will have a 1st round bye

would like to hear your thoughts

Is that 5 + 2 or just 5................remember in my day it was just (3). That (5 classes) is NOT going to happen...............................follow the money. Give opinion on the 6A dilemma

5 public and 2 private. Until that happens, your going to see a 6A playoffs that involves the same 3-4 teams in the title hunt every year because that class huh as way too few teams

We have already brought this up, exact same senerios. What happens if the 0-10 team says I am not going to travel and get beat? It could happen simply because of expenses.

Very good question. I think we know what would happen. The TSSAA is going to get their money. In the form of the gate or in fines. No way will they allow that to happen and say nothing. But if a team that was 0-10 decided to do that would anyone blame them. And it really doesn't have to be an 0-10 team. Why not a 1-9, 2-8, or 3-7 team that ends up playing the #1 or #2 seed?

Warren Co. Siegel, and Antioch are the only 3 teams that are winless in 6A. Warren Co. And Siegel play each other so one of those 2 will earn a win. Very slim chance 2 of the remaining go winless this year. Yea, I understand where you guys are coming from. If I finished 0-10 or 1-9 I wouldn't want to make a long trip to lose but you never know what could happen. Those Seniors could mentally prepare themselves

And upset someone. It's the playoffs. Anything can happen. Anytime. Anywhere. Except Maryville.

I like it.... Sure, some teams are going to make the playoffs that dont deserve to but thats always going to happen because regions are not equal in difficulty.... In the old set-up you had a region like WB's where we had 2 state champs and several other solid to really good teams to deal with and then you had Sevier Co and Oak Ridge and those rinky dink regions they were in. In a way this new set-up helps those teams that might have made the playoffs in other regions but are stuck in a region that is much tougher than the others.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
