Next Giles County Coach?

It's not that it doesn't work, but I don't think throwing the ball 5 times a game is going to allow you get past the 3rd round of the playoffs most years.  Oakland is one of a few schools that is huge with lots of talent, as are most all of the Murfreesboro schools.  They can line up and pound you like Nebraska used to, and most teams they play will not have the ability to withstand that for a whole game.   Giles Co. doesn't have enough of those kind of athletes at the point of attack right now and I am not sure that they ever will on a consistent basis.  The bottom line is Giles won a lot of games running a spread style with somewhat undersized players.  Good coaching, team speed, and a swarming defense that didn't miss many tackles beat Greenville in the title game, and played a great game in the semi's against Fulton a couple of years later that they could have won.  When that coaching staff and philosophy left, they wins left with them. It;s been mostly down hill since.

Didn't stone memorial beat y'all pretty bad in the first round of the playoffs. What do they run....... Oh yeah old school foot to foot double wing. Give me a break. There is many different ways to skin a cat. At the end of the day it's about who can coach blocking and tackling the best. Along with offseason conditioning, weight room, motivating kids etc.. It's not just about Xs and Os

I don't think we fall into the dominant category

What you say is true. Giles was 4-7, Stone was a 10-0 team. The outcome was as expected. Giles was not a good team this year. They didn't even have a quarterback the last half of the season.

To my point, and since you mentioned Stone Memorial. They were put out the next week by East Hamilton. I don't know what offense East runs but they were out the next week by a Marshall County team running a spread. When a Run oriented team runs across a balanced offense that can physically match up with them on both sides of the ball, they are likely beat. Most defenses don't see enough good passing games in the regular season to be able to stop it in the playoffs. The players simply don't have enough experience defending it. There are exceptions, but not many.

I was also hearing that the guy from Forrest was the front runner but now I'm hearing there is a new guy from Munford. That is going to give him a run for his money!

I need to look this guy from Munford up. They other one I am told is from creek wood or something like that.

Another poster mentioned they should go after the coach that was at University School of Jackson. I read some about him. He's had a successful career. Don't know what offense he runs though and what he was doing at a small private school may not be successful in 4A.

I know the guy at Forrest is a good coach, but again I don't think the wing t will get us to Cookvile.

if you were saying Giles didn't have the athletes to match up with stone you didn't see the game. Giles was bigger, more athletic, and much faster. It doesn't matter what type of offense a team runs, as long as it's coached well and you have the personnel to run it, you can run 50x a game, pass 50x, or split it fairly even and have success. We were smaller, slower, and just plain out less athletic than a lot of teams we played, and still found success because of discipline

Who's it going to be in Pulaski?

Not sure. Rand Wright if we want to tote the rock. Curly Pattern if we toss the rock. Or Which away Joe if we don't know which way to go with the rock. Ambassador. Looks like toting the rock has worked well over the years for them SP folks.

I'm looking for Defense! Give the rock back to the offense enough times sooner or later they'll find the chalk!  :thumb:

I'm more interested in the strength/conditioning and the new head knockers ability to identify & bring aboard quality assistants.

WOMG, how does your district look next year? Since there's not region 3 posters on, might as well learn about our playoff competition

You guys went undefeated for a reason. Really good team. Hard nosed and relentless attack on both sides of the ball. But as I have been saying, it will take more than that to beat the kind of teams that have been winning 4A titles the last 7 or 8 years.

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
