3a region 4 2016

Without getting into schemes, fundamentals or positioning at this time, as I said earlier in the year in my option you cannot play underclassmen in key positions and expect them to compete, I did not know at the time that several of the underclassman are related to parents helping to coach. further a twenty-something, head coach and likewise defensive coordinator are to inexperienced and immature for this job. Again in my option. So ask the question is there a winning, successful program out there starting a number of underclassmen? With parents on the coaching staff? and a twenty-something head coach?

both those said 20 something coaching were part of a 13-1 semi final football staff in 2013 at Upperman and have more exp under there belts since then so I dont think age is a factor. Cant comment on the rest since i dont know the situation.

Am I not mistaken is this not the same staff that the previous coach had other than the Cordnator. I actually had ask about that prior to the stone game and was told it was.

I think you make my point, what age was Coach Herron then. a lot of guys can cook a steak, they can't all run the restaurant. However bringing up that Upperman team, I was told that they had twenty seniors that  had been together since freshman year or before. this is something else that bothers me about the program at York. The current senior class had 27 kids on the squad when they came in as freshman, surely they were not all starter material but best I can tell there are only nine or ten left. seems like a lost opportunity to me.

The lose of freshman is pretty common throughout the years. Kids lose interest, not enough playing time, hot summer practices, workouts and parents filing their kids head full of stuff instead of filling it with hard work ethic. It's always tough when a parent is a coach cause it will always look like they are playing favorites if their kid plays, not saying that this doesn't happen but it's rare that a coaches kid plays ahead of someone better. The main point that I would like to make is you better be careful when questioning a coach because if you are getting rid of good coaches for the wrong reasons then that could poison a program and will set it back for even more years.

This has happened to much in the recent history of our sports programs. Basketball and softball most recent. I do not know the coaches peraonally but I think they will have a top notch program if left alone. Numbers are up they have to take two busses for players. When's that happened at YAI I have never seen it and I'm not young.

I will say watching last weeks game the talk of a one dementional offense at YAI is not the case. The rb looked healthy and we threw the ball good. I'm hoping we surprise a few in region play. I'm using yet another vacation day to go watch this week so I sure hope it's not a waste. GO DRAGONS!!!!!

I am guesings in 2013 Herron was like 33, maybe 3rd season as a head coach. I dont think coaching is a problem with that staff...it might just be a talent thing. It will cycle around if you keep the program strong and the coaching consistent.

That Alcoa Playoff game might have taken something out of him and the Upperman football program.

    • It was not ACHS at all, they have zero reason to worry about Clinton.  It had to do with a kid (non football player)  that had a charge and appeared in front of the juvenile judge.  The judge saw that the kid was way behind credit wise for his grade and told him to reappear in a month with a plan to graduate.  When the kid reappeared he had more that twice the credits than one month before.  The judge called BS and contacted the school.  That is what happened.
    • I believe the Covington Chargers travel to Trenton Peabody for a scrimmage today? Anyone going to this? Curious how the Chargers will do.
    • Good ole Bradley Zulliger. He was a really good QB @ OR. Fun to watch.  Wore #15 and was like a mini Tebow, with the exception of being right handed. He could take a pounding and keep on ticking. Played with a collapsed lung against Powell that year. Tough as nails.
    • They should be pretty good in year two for Rang.  Replacing most of the offensive production losing Dozier, Hayward and Rembert , but they're are skill kids in place ready for their shot.  I know I say this every year, but the o line should show improvement after two years in Rang and Kevin Day's weight program.  I still would favor West over Plow and OR come November.  The Rebs will have to grow up a bunch between now and then, and will probably take some lumps along the way with that schedule.  But I predict come playoff time they will be ready.   One of their coaches half joked to me that they could go 5-5 regular season and win the state championship.  Ha ha.
