I'd rather fall down with the Wave yard from the weight of a sellout crowd than have a different stadium moved to the high school. You all know as well as me, if a new one were built, it's going to be the same typical rinky dinky steel bars looking stadium that every new school gets. Not interested in one like that. Rather have the stadium we already have fixed. Because we're one of the only schools left with bleachers on both ends that stretch nearly the length of the entire field. Gives it a more intimidating feel.

Also, I would never want them to build a stupid track inside the stadium. Which is what we would have, if it were moved to the high school. Keep the Waveyard, and only improve it. It's a very unique stadium, and one that can hold as many people as any other stadium around.

The stadium will never move to the current campus. That idea has died. The visitors side concrete is deteriorating quickly and the press box has needs. These are the primary structural problems needing immediate attention.

You are a complete idiot if you believe what you are typing here. Thursday night football games aren't looking grim. Every coach I talk with is dying to get his teams on tv & I have been to several of them at several different schools & have yet to see a small crowd.

I enjoyed watching Thursday Night Football so much this year my gut reaction at 7p.m. is grab the remote and see who is playing this week just like I did last night and the season is over. The only thing I hate is the same commercials over and over so that's when I jump up and go do something around the house for a minute or two and come back or turn the volume down and take a Coach T break.

I agree with TheRealTruth, the idea that the stadium be moved to the high school has died. Except it is an option by the school board who owns both. If an investor wanted that property and paid for what it is worth and Agreed to build a stadium at the high school (4 to 5 million) then they would jump at it. Other than that it is much cheaper for it to remain where it is. However, if the visitor side is worse than the 2011 assessment then that side could completely down. More than likely replaced with a cheaper and smaller aluminum one. You have another issue with the rust and old paint on the home side. That needs to be taken off before applying new unless there are pitting issues then it needs replaced at points. If it is lead paint then you have another issue. Once the structural issue is resolved, you will see a vast plan off upgrades I predict. New concessions, field house, bathrooms and probably some brick facing. It could look really good with new additions. That stadium has been there since I know 1917. It was remodeled in the 40's by the railroad. Since then besides aluminum bleachers being added not a whole lot has changed. Nothing major has been done since the addition to the visitor side in the 70's. It has been neglected by the school board by my understanding since Station Camp came on line. Now to be fair, they did do some minor work to the visitor bathrooms and bleachers just to get it open this year. Gallatin needs to come together on this issue for nothing more than safety for the fans. The school board needs to do their job and ensure the fans safety then let us as individuals do the rest.

Actually I know of about 6 schools that will not allow him back, mainly because of the way he acts. I know for fact Kingston told him to never come back again how he was throwing a fit over the set up in pressbox

Well said. I doubt the school board or county commission will act on a 2011 assessment. I believe a new assessment would have to be done. Even more money spent. I believe it may be neglected even longer unless a few Gallatin supporters on the board and commission really push this. Even then, I believe they will come up with a cheap solution.

2000 visitors go to the football game and the stadium falls in hurting most of the crowd and even killing a few. What's cheaper, pay out 2 million per head times 2000 which is 4 billion dollars or pay 4 million and get the thing rebuilt. Very simple math. The lawsuit would be won hands down because they know of the problem and did nothing about it. Just like the lady that got burned by hot coffee at McDonald's. The thermostat was tore up and dozens of people came in complaining to the managers about the coffee being to hot and they ignored the problem until someone spilled the ten million dollar cup of coffee on them and was burned. Maryville was faced with the same situation back in 1982 when a lady fell through the old wooden stadium and got hurt

That has been brought up. Problem stems from a Director of Schools that is heavily biased toward a few schools. One of the main detractors from Gallatin was on the school board and he got voted out last election. Well guess who just got appointed to oversee all new construction by the school board!! It seems to be a few people who do not want Gallatin to succeed as much as others. Gallatin administration has clashed with the school board several times in the last few years. I think the city and the neighbors need to complain about its current state. It looks terrible. Then the obvious safety issue.

Just curious, I see where the school and the field are in two different locations. Was the school where the field is at one time. I know that's the case at some places like Oak Ridge for example.

    • I've always been a football fan first and then if you have a band that's awesome. No question that DB has one of the best bands in the country and the whole region should attend at least one DB game just to see their band. I don't know if Nick Saban could come to Kingsport and build a football program that could match the Dobyns Bennett band's success. That said,as mentioned before, a couple of things would have to change in order for the Tribe to just win a state championship on the field.Besides a program that starts from the peewee teams and goes all the way to J Fred with all coaches and weight training { in time }on the same page. Sometimes it also takes a little luck like the 1998 Vols .There are a lot of great athletes at a lot of big schools around the state and just because you want something doesn't mean your going to build a program like Alcoa has. Yes,start at the bottom and have guys that are quality coaches teaching at every level is 100% the first step. Parents can make it a lot easier by getting their young athletes into an early start with conditioning and weights as well when they are old enough to lift.If your son is a man in the weight room before he gets to DB , then it won't take a "Dobbs" coach to make him competitive against other schools athletes when it comes to strength.
    • Dyersburg scrimmaged South Gibson last week
    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
    • No yellow stripes on the rug last night. Biggest crowd I’ve seen at 825 since the alco debacle.
