i heard that DB lost all the seniors but 1. heard they all QUIT!!! lol..imagine that. but from what ive heard is that they were the problem all along.  the few games that I watched, that seemed spot on because all I seen them do was turn the ball over and play selfish, along with point fingers at someone else the entire time. Nothing kills a team faster than egos and turnovers!! I bet the team from here on will play with more heart!!

The Tribe currently stands at 2 - 14 overall, and 0-5 in conference.

They lost by 40+ to Crocket, 50+ to Oak Ridge twice. For reference, Karns (an above average Knoxville public school) lost to OR by 4.

As it stands, DB is not even competitive.

I realize this sounds like fiction, too strange to believe. However, it is true.

Two kids that would normally be at DB are attending private school. One of those will be playing at UT next year. I have heard that another kid transferred to Crocket, but I don't know that 100% for certain. Several players also quit last year, I believe. More quit recently.

This is certainly the worst team in the modern era, and probably the worst in school history by far.

A bit of history...Dobyns Bennett has/had the winningest basketball program in the United States of America - in spite of the current and previous coach. I am guessing that would probably extend to the winningest basketball program on the freaking planet.

The current athletic director is an abject failure. He was a less than average basketball coach who was (again, unbelievably) promoted to AD. A glimmer of hope...he is retiring (yes, this jack-#### has been there long enough to retire!) at year's end. He has not created a culture or expectation of excellence. His reign of terror will come to an end shortly.

So, what to do about it? Posting on this forum with excessive hyperbole won't create change.

I suggest calling the superintendent. Have your friends call him. Let your voice be heard. Contact the school board. If you want things to change, put some skin in the game. I know that folks from within city government have meet with the super to offer their assistance in getting things righted.

The band program is ultra successful. Ask yourself why. It's not happening by chance or good fortune. Simple answer: leadership. Everyone pulling in the same direction.

I am hearing from some pretty reliable sources that the problem with DB athletics goes much higher than "just" the AD and coaches. Anyone going to the superintendent will probably run into a road block because he is very much involved in creating the mess we have now. The school board will block any effort to correct this mess. I'm not sure the BOA would be of any help but that's about the only option. But then their to busy building their Downtown Empire to be of any help with such a small issue. From what Im hearing on the street there are three people being considered to take the AD job. One would be a good hire, the other two don't come from a sports background but have ties to the the school administration and superintendent. Who do you think will get the job? You're just around the corner from seeing things get far worse than what you're seeing now.

Personally I think they are trying to destroy the sports programs. There has been a push in resent years to bring DB to the very top of the ladder as far as education goes. Plans to build a new science and arts wing on school grounds among other things. And I think that is a good thing as would anybody. After all school is for learning. But I think the school board resents a successful sports program simply because it eats up all the limelight. It's the liberal way of thinking. They want to turn DB into the Ivy League of high schools. The band gets all the support they need and then some. It's music, and liberals love music far more than football or basketball.

I'll probably call the superintendent anyway though, and I suggest everyone else do the same. If anything just to annoy them. We will find out soon enough when the new AD is named if all this I'm hearing is correct.

I would agree that it is not all the fault of the AD.

I only heard two names. One being a local attorney that is basically a big supporter/ booster. The other being an individual that is a current school system employee but doesn't come from a sports background. That second individual has certainly been about as successful as possible in their current role. He would make for an interesting candidate for consideration, in my opinion. Truthfully, I have never spoken to either of the two, so I can't comment.

Another scenario is that they move Morgan out, and promote him to AD. Don't laugh - it's been done before.

Those who met with the Superintendent said that at least he talked a good game. It is my understanding that he comes from Greenville, and they seem to have a successful sports program. It is also my understanding that his deputies are sports minded people. Just what I have been told.

Ok, I read your post three times and I just got one question. Have you been drinking?

    • Looks like South Pittsburg added some more talent!
    • So much talk about an investigation about student record manipulation and then everything has went silent. Has anyone heard how the investigation is going?
    • Basically what you're saying is schools can basically bully students around and get away with it because they are protected. I agree to a certain extent but when schools decisions to keep knuckleheads on staff starts costing kids careers and a college education there is a problem. Our school system last week had a teacher supposedly push a kid and the parents went to the law and the teacher is suspended. So I wouldn't say that they can just do what they want without liability. This case don't pass the smell test because the coach had already been fired before and she got fired after a year on the job. Sounds like the student was right in this case on the outside looking in because the coach gets fired after one year. How many coaches get fired after one year?? Not many.
    • Problem with DB football goes beyond coaching. Like Waco said. Thr band is the main focus of their community and school. They have the resources to be a championship level team. Guarantee Ballard or Witten could have them nationally relevant at some point but everyone down to peewee would have to buy in and at DB we all know that would never happen.
