FightinIllini
Starting new thread for the 2016 season ..... What are the pre-season outlooks and opinions? MJ already has 5 pitchers committed... Cumberland, Tufts, Tennessee , Miss St. and Vandy I would expect 2 more pitchers to commit soon. That's pretty strong. bigchief
Illini, how did the scrimmage go Saturday? I know Creekwood is not exactly a threat, but how did the Bears do?
FightinIllini
chief, MJ looked ok... I think it was the first maybe second day of live pitching..... We had a few good hits but you can tell no one is seeing the ball. Pitching was good.... again as you eluded to above Creekwood is not a good indicator. The pitching and defense will be fine, in order to do some real damage they need to hit and produce runs rather than score off the other teams mistakes. Eventually that does not work. I have been watching some college ball so my impressions might be a little harsh. Edited February 22, 2016 by FightinIllini

SOUTHERNFRIED
So far we (Portland) have had two scrimmages with Springfield and Barren County Ky. The varsity won 10-3 against Springfield and 3-1 over Barren County. We are a young team, only starters coming back are out first baseman, second baseman, inf/pit, and our catcher and center fielder. The remaining are either first year senior starters or Freshman/Sophomores or our one lone jr. So far we have been well pleased with their efforts and attitudes. We have 2 signing on the 14th with Cumberland, our catcher, and our firstbase/pitcher. Looking forward to the season. Good luck to everyone! mondo44
Good opening win for Hville last night as they defeat Clarksville NE 4-1. Mullins and Nichol combined on a 4 hitter. Big blow on offense was a 2 run double by Fuller in a 4 run 4th. Pitching and defense have looked good so far, offense is a work in progress. District play opens tonight at WC at 6 pm. SOUTHERNFRIED
So far, it has been a good start for us. Won 5-2 over Watertown, and last night defeated Hume Fogg 10-0 in 7. We are a young, young team. Last night (after our Sr 2nd baseman hurt his shoulder on a dive) we had a Freshman 2nd baseman, Soph 3rd, Soph SS. Looking forward to a great season if we can stay healthy. Our future is bright with our Freshman and Sophomores, but they are being baptized by fire right now. Hope everyone can stay healthy. Should be an interesting weekend playing in Clarksville in a wood bat tourney.
