Fourpointplay
Moore Co school board decided not to give Coach Slatten tenure... that is sad as he has done wonders with the girls basketball program.. Those board members have no clue about the everyday happenings within a basketball program or any athletic program as a whole.. Does anyone know how long Slatten was at Moore County? Fourpointplay
Sounds like he had a good record and good run whether he made it to state or not. Hard to get good coaches into a system when you fire them right when they're building something.
ecu
No one has given a reason yet? How could he not have tenure if he was there six years?
BamaBoy32
With the new tenure law, you have to be recommended for tenure for 2 straight years. The law went into effect 2 years ago I think, and he fell under the new guidelines. Supposedly, they have board members down there that are saying that they will never give anyone tenure under this new law. I think that he was a "4" OR "5" level teacher and because of it he had to go before the board, but if he wouldnt have been as good a teacher he wouldnt have had to go before the board and it would have been a mute point. Makes no sense they way that our teachers and coaches are done when it comes to their teaching positions.

This makes no sense.
johnnyjumpshot
If he is a 4 or 5, why would he have to go before the board. 5 is the best you can get. This makes no sense. Basically, the new law that went into effect in 2011 says when a teacher has been employed for 5 years and they score 4-5's on evaluations for 2 consecutive years, they must be recommended for tenure by the superintendent. When they are recommended by the super, the board has to vote whether to grant it or not. If they vote it down they cannot rehire that teacher. It happened to Coach Slatten and Coach Austin the former Football coach. Edited May 12, 2016 by johnnyjumpshot
Fourpointplay
If I were a teacher, there would be no incentive to score a 4 or a 5 then. I'd have a better chance to keep my job by being a 2 or 3 if they are just going to vote you out. What happened to rewarding people who do well in their jobs? Moore County is the only county I've heard of this happening though.
