Dobyns-Bennett @ Oak Ridge

There are some things that known about Oak Ridge but there are still some key question marks! Known Tee Higgins is tall, fast and is one of the best receivers in the country! Jordan Graham is fast and could be the key to a Cats victory! We also know that Oak Ridge has a very athletic team with at least one really good linebacker, but the rest is still a wait and see!

One thing unknown is how good Jordan Graham really is, because he hasn't yet played a smack you in the mouth defense, other than Sevier County who struggles against the run and maybe Ooltewa. We are still waiting to see what the new OR QB has to offer, as he was not challenged at all in his first game! Can he run? Can he throw with pressure? Can he throw when he has to make a quick decision and his targets are being covered. ( That last comment does not mean I am oblivious to the fact that Tee or other receivers can still make an athletic catch when being covered!). Offense and Defensive lines on both sides are still a wait and see! It is known that the Linebackers for DB will come get you, still a wait to see in the Defensive backfield but it appears to be majorly improved since last year! With all that said, not one person in this thread has a clue of what the outcome of this game will be, but I can promise you this, we will all have the answers to these questions after Friday Night and it might be another Dobyns Bennett and Oak Ridge Classic!

If DBs defense is as good as Ooltewah was last year with that beast MLB they had and that beast DT they had I'll be surprised. They were darn good. And trust me. They hit Graham very hard, but he's a tough little nut to crack. Don't let his stature fool you. The kid is strong for his size.

On paper OR wins it hands down. The only problem is that the game is not played on paper. I am leaning towards DB in a close one. Word on the street is that DB is dialing up a special package that OR, nor anyone else, has seen yet. No, this isn't smack talk, it will be a close game either way, but don't count the Indians out just yet..

So you're saying that DB will not keep it vanilla?

DB will do whatever it takes to win (legally, morally and ethically or course..)    DB knows all too well the challenge that Higgins gives them and even though he didn't burn them too badly last year they are not taking any chances.    Desperate times call for desperate measures...

Here's a hint:   sometimes the key to defending a quality guy like Higgins does not necessarily mean doing something special for him.

He burned them, we just couldn't get him the darn ball last year. Sadly.

This will be my first visit to "The Ship" hoping for a injury free classic. I remember some of the Old Timers talking about a game DB wasn't supposed to win against the Cats some fellow named Adonis Johnson kinda stunk that one up. Hoping someone on the DB side has a breakout performance and can stop the Cats. Maybe that big ole Band will help. I feel OR should definitely be favored, But just because your favored doesn't mean you win.

Yep. Adonis was from Oak Ridge and should've worn the Cardinal & Grey. Sure would've liked to have kept him. He was a phenomenal talent.

Totally....    This year just throw a jump ball, 9 times out of 10 he is going to get it.

But you still have to be able to stop DB on defense and that will not be easy.

If it takes a double reverse switchback statue of George Washington play every other down, DB will do whatever it takes.    Gotta have a win this time, many fans still have a bitter taste after coming so close last year..

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
