Got cha! No one is perfect but man I think this year is all time worse for officiating. I just wish refs would be more consistent as a crew. One makes a call and the calls total opposite on an exact play, things like that. Or, call 1st half one way then come out and call 2nd half totally different. And it is a thankless job, but I have seen in the past and played under some great officiated games, at least it seemed really balanced. There are a lot of officials that are just getting a check and not passionate about the job. Many did not play or coach and seem to not know anything about the game. Also the assigners should take into consideration the caliber of games that they assign refs to. IMO. Putting 3 refs, one overweight, one bad kness and one bad back in a Haywood vs Humboldt boys game isn't really smart?

I can see where you're coming from on that one.  Someone needs to be in shaped in that kind of game no doubt!   I just don't think there are enough people applying for the jobs to be honest.  If it payed more then you'd get better quality in my opinion.  The best referee's are the one's that absolutely love the game and love doing their job at the same time.  If they are out there for the paycheck it might not be the best place to get one.   :popcorneater:

Wingman, I am with you.  It is a totally different world.  Unfortunately there are not a lot, if any, youngsters coming along to take our place.  I think HS ball may have to spread games out over 4 days in the future because there is going to be a big shortage of us to do games on just Tues and Friday's in about 10 years.

Not only are there less officials every year, but there are more and more games being played every year. I've seen more freshmen teams/games with single A teams this year than the past 5 combined.

    • So much talk about an investigation about student record manipulation and then everything has went silent. Has anyone heard how the investigation is going?
    • Basically what you're saying is schools can basically bully students around and get away with it because they are protected. I agree to a certain extent but when schools decisions to keep knuckleheads on staff starts costing kids careers and a college education there is a problem. Our school system last week had a teacher supposedly push a kid and the parents went to the law and the teacher is suspended. So I wouldn't say that they can just do what they want without liability. This case don't pass the smell test because the coach had already been fired before and she got fired after a year on the job. Sounds like the student was right in this case on the outside looking in because the coach gets fired after one year. How many coaches get fired after one year?? Not many.
    • Problem with DB football goes beyond coaching. Like Waco said. Thr band is the main focus of their community and school. They have the resources to be a championship level team. Guarantee Ballard or Witten could have them nationally relevant at some point but everyone down to peewee would have to buy in and at DB we all know that would never happen.
    • I know the RB from OR he’s fast and has good hands. Is good on special teams also. Didn’t want to play defense over to the Ridge.
