Metro Nashville recruiting

Run I am pretty sure that when you were coaching this probably didn't happen or if it did it was a couple coaches. But I can't personally remember hearing of it. I'm not sure when it really started to pick up but I think it's because a couple coaches were doing it and were successful. Others saw the success and followed suit. Now it's a mess. I still think and want to believe it's a minority of coaches that do it. They are just more open about how they do it. You are correct it is about ethics. Unfortunately some are more concerned about the win column no matter how the win comes. Hopefully, this issue will be resolved in the near future. Lastly, it's not a metro issue. Happens in a lot of places in metro areas.

Privates must recruit to stay competitive. With the arms race they are in, recruiting is part of their job now.

Metro schools are raided and robbed by privates. This has created a situation where metro coaches either join the game of acquiring players or they can't field a competitive team.

Sad but true.

Privates do not have to recruit like they do, I disagree with you. They do it to win, not be competitive. And metro coaches do not have to raid and rob other schools players. It is sad  they can't just coach who comes to their schools they have to go get best players just to win. I have never had a problem with a parent seeking a school for their kid. That is fine and okay. What is wrong is coaches both public and private making first contact by approaching good athletes for one purpose,WIN!!!.

Privates cannot compete at the level they want to entertain the wealthy, elite students and parents who actually pay to attend. If they could, no separate divisions would be needed. The privates flash their money and recruit kids merely for athletic success. These same schools that were formed to avoid integration now pay for black kids to play ball because they couldn't compete with metro schools or county schools with only the paying clientele.

 

These actions force metro coaches to seek other talent or fail to compete.

As long as the TSSAA continues to not enforce the coaching link rule then it will be open season. NPA and other for profit groups will continue to prey on athletes and take them away from their home school.

Exactly right... These "training group" are steering a lot of kids to certain metro schools.. I don't think HS coaches should be allowed to be associated with training groups. Either be a trainer or be a coach, not both

MNPS didn't particularly help the situation with the Academies of Nashville concept. They allow middle school students to choose what career path they want to take in 8th grade. Which allows coaches to get out and "recruit" for their Academies. Just so happens that a lot of the academies that students are interested in are found at Hillsboro, Pearl-Cohn, Cane Ridge, Stratford, and whatever Metro school is doing good in athletics.

Good point asiatic. Here's the thing to me. MNPS has some good coaches that have had at least some level of success. PC is good. They seem to just reload. EN had a couple good years and beat PC one of those. Stratford has turned the corner and is back on track. Hillwood is improved and they are about to move. Hillsboro is usually good. Overton competes every year. Antioch was improved. And CR had their best year. Coaching in metro is tough and I applaud all the coaches for the job they do. They do not get the credit that they deserve. Maybe that's part of the issue I don't know. Whatever the case may be, I hope all the metro schools are successful and do it the right way. And if it's not happening the right way I just hope it gets back on track.

That's exactly it. I do not think many coaches go out and blatantly recruit. I think a lot of the issue are parents "shopping" their kids around to the best programs, where the lottery system can get them in.

 

Honestly, If a really good player transferred or wanted to come to your school as a coach would you turn him away? I highly doubt that. I believe as long as things are done correctly and above board, then transfers are going to happen. They have been happening for years in metro, not going to change imo anytime soon
