Ravenwood at Whitehaven

Very good up front on both sides, including OT Gabe Sleenhoff who is getting interest from low D1 schools/ivies. On defense, LB Graham Barton is looking at offers from similar schools. Smaller, borderline undersized skill players but make up in speed what they lack in size. Look at the connection between QB Bryan Garcia and WRs Anthony Holmes, Andrew Mason and Evan Coleman along with RBs Tony Rice, William Baine and Jordan Smith.

Tactically Ravenwood runs a 3/4-4/3 hybrid on defense and a spread on offense, but the spread is an unorthodox one, think Ravenwood under Hester and/or Auburn University under Malzahn. Maybe with more shifts and misdirection. I know Whitehaven is usually full of large athletes, so we'll see how the Raptors match up.

Thanks for sharing. I like know who to look for in big games like this. If you don't mind, what are the jersey numbers of those to whom I just higlighted above. (Nevermind ... I went to Max_Preps)

WRs

2 Anthony Holmes SB, RB Sr. 5-5 170
3 Evan Coleman WR, SB Sr. 5-11 160
16 Andrew Mason WR, CB Jr. 5-10 145

Which one of the WR does the QB like throwing it to the most?

RBs

8 William Baine RB, SB Sr. 5-10 195
10 Tony Rice RB Jr.
44 Jordan Smith RB, FS Jr. 6-0 205

I also see where you guys scheduled a very tough out-of-town opponent in South Warren of Kentucky. DId you get a chance to go to that game as well? That had to be a great learning experience for the team even though they took a goose egg..

Couldn't make it up for that one. But yeah, losing to anyone 21-0 is bad, albeit against a very good team, especially after beating them last year.  The schedule won't get any easier next year as Blackman and Pulaski Acadamy are on tap.

I understand. I couldn't make it to the North Little Rock game either when we went to play them. So you guys have added Blackman and Pulaski Academy ... good for you. Win or lose, you want those types of games on your schedule. I think the current classification format has a lot of 6A coaching staffs looking for these types of non region games more and more. Does no good to go undefeated and your young men haven't been tested.

What team on the Ravenwood schedule would you say best resembles this Whitehaven team?

I would say the closest thing athletically Ravenwood has seen to what they will see Friday is Cane Ridge.

    • The Girls Basketball team I am a part of played for a gold ball this season. One of the biggest differences in the sports is that there is no field prep/maintenance in basketball.   Our baseball is successful and play 30 games in the regular season as well. All of the teams dedicate A LOT of time in preparing for their next opponent.

    • Im pretty excited about the new rules that NFHS voted to adopt. Does anyone know if this will take place in Tennessee starting this year? I think I heard/read somewhere that the TSSAA bi-laws say they have to mirror what the NFHS does, and when the NFHS offered the current weight classes as options, TSSAA didn’t adopt them until NFHS made them official. Did NFHS make these changes official starting next season or will it be similar to the weight classes where TSSAA doesn’t change what they are doing until it is  an officially official part of the NFHS rule book? It’ll be interesting to see if it is rolled out for the new TSSAA Middle School season and I saw a post where the youth wrestling in TN was going to vote on adopting it as well.  I’ll pray for all the youth coaches that will have to shoulder the confusion from all those crazy #### parents who already think they know the rules more than everyone else  . Imagine the first time their kid is taken down and a 3 goes up on the scoreboard or their kid gets pinned with only one point of contact in the cylinder. Their heads might explode. i kid, I kid. Sort of. I’m surprised ride time was brought down with all the other changes. I know some argue that it promotes stalling on top, but its been an official scoring method in college forever, so I figure it must be doing something right. Do any of you think that’ll ever be implemented?
