Starting a discussion area for small school teams...

Loretto lost a couple of players from a tough state championship team, but were deep and they will be expected to compete again.

Sale Creek were runners up in 2018 only losing to Loretto twice in the tourney, and should compete again as well.

To my knowledge, Hickman Co. doesn’t have many year round players, but are scrappy and athletic. With experience at state last year, they should not be counted out.

I have already seen Harpeth, Summertown, and 2018 Final 4 team, Watertown at play days. All 3 are looking poised for a potential run at State.

Teams like perennial state attendees South Greene should Be around as well.

Anyone else?

Teeter Tot...gotta give the little guys some love!!! Often times A and AA ball gets lost in the shuffle.

Jay, Summertown is always game. Last year was the first year in a few that they didn’t make it to state so I am sure they are very hungry! In the play day I saw they split sets with Harpeth and I believe Watertown. If it were to have been a full 5 set game it could have gone either way.

I would argue that the single A section of regions with Loretto, Summertown, Harpeth and Hickman County is the toughest in the state at that level. It’s a shame only 2 of those teams get to compete in state and some of the West TN teams who can’t even get a serve over the net get to compete.

Single A news that I have heard this weekend...

Summertown loses to Lipscomb Academy in the finals of the MTCS tourney. Summertown is a talented single A team. One to watch for sure!

Harpeth is the only single A team at the Smyrna Bulldog Bash and come up with several good wins and lose in 3 to Franklin and Beech. Both of those schools are 3x as big as Harpeth. If they can stay healthy and get by their nemesis Hickman Co., they can make some noise in single A.

There were several single A school playing in Columbia this weekend at the KD Pink Out, but I can't find any scores. Anyone?

Harpeth defeats Fairview 3-1...

Looking for the Hickman County/Dickson County score but can't find it anywhere. I imagine DC wins easily, but you never know. I think they are a little down this year.

Why do people not report their scores?!?!

DC won in 3 but don't know the scores.

Summertown continues to roll with only one loss on the season.

Defending State Champs Loretto lose another game to an Alabama team, but by all accounts are strong and playing well. They play District/Region rival Summertown next week in a game with District standings implications.

Harpeth beats defending 10-A/Region 5-A champs Hickman County this week. Which means nothing, because Harpeth won both regular season meetings last year and the Volleydogs won both the District & Region championships. So, they aren't to be counted out.

Sale Creek seems to be on a roll, too, but I'm not sure if they have been tested.

Several of these teams are in action at the Mid TN Classic or the Overton Bobcat Classic this weekend.

    • The Girls Basketball team I am a part of played for a gold ball this season. One of the biggest differences in the sports is that there is no field prep/maintenance in basketball.   Our baseball is successful and play 30 games in the regular season as well. All of the teams dedicate A LOT of time in preparing for their next opponent.

    • Im pretty excited about the new rules that NFHS voted to adopt. Does anyone know if this will take place in Tennessee starting this year? I think I heard/read somewhere that the TSSAA bi-laws say they have to mirror what the NFHS does, and when the NFHS offered the current weight classes as options, TSSAA didn’t adopt them until NFHS made them official. Did NFHS make these changes official starting next season or will it be similar to the weight classes where TSSAA doesn’t change what they are doing until it is  an officially official part of the NFHS rule book? It’ll be interesting to see if it is rolled out for the new TSSAA Middle School season and I saw a post where the youth wrestling in TN was going to vote on adopting it as well.  I’ll pray for all the youth coaches that will have to shoulder the confusion from all those crazy #### parents who already think they know the rules more than everyone else  . Imagine the first time their kid is taken down and a 3 goes up on the scoreboard or their kid gets pinned with only one point of contact in the cylinder. Their heads might explode. i kid, I kid. Sort of. I’m surprised ride time was brought down with all the other changes. I know some argue that it promotes stalling on top, but its been an official scoring method in college forever, so I figure it must be doing something right. Do any of you think that’ll ever be implemented?
