Fayetteville at Gordonsville

As predicted, the Orange and Black came out on top 30-17 being the final score. 7-3 at the half, FHS regrouped and put up 16 in the 3rd {2 TDs, missed PAT, 1 FG}.  Tacked on another 7 in the fourth by a 70 yd rushing TD by #8 Isaac Pace.  Gordo's 14 points in the fourth came in the last three minutes of regulation with FHS second and third stringers in.  Both teams had big plays, both teams turned the ball over on strips and fumble recoveries.  Gordo was gifted in the third by a punt that hit a City player and they recovered the ball but couldn't cash in.  Overall lots to work on for City, but steady ground game produced some nice plays and first downs.  Refs definitely inconsistent on procedure calls and at least two offsetting PF penalties that to my orange eyes were straight Gordonsville at fault.  Overall grade City a B but Gordo had no answers for #3, #4, #7, or #8.  Give them a C+ for big plays at the right time, just couldn't convert those into points.  Next victim  opponent is Whitwell, the defending state champs.

Also, I'd like to publicly thank the Gordonsville football team and staff (and school admin?) for their thoughtfulness last night.  In light of the recent tragedy we've been through at our school, BOTH team met at midfield after the game, and spent several minutes huddled together side by side.  This was after a hard played game that was chippy at times.  At the end, a loud "GO TIGERS!", and a gifting of a tree to be planted in Tate's memory and honor.

This is what football and being part of a greater team concept is all about.  Well done Gordonsville.  Well done.

I don't think it would've changed rhe outcome, but who knows...I warched the film, and that fumble that was ruled down, was clearly a fumble.  That would've been 6 points for us.

Anyway, congratulations,  and good luck.

Same thing happened to us when we played them.

if it's the one I'm thinking about, the refs quick-whistled him down.  Eyeballing it live, the ball looked like if popped out when he was going down.  But, maybe his knee or backside was on the ground.  that would have been 6 pts for sure since half a dozen of your guys were escorting him downfield.  BUT, what about that TD run (25-30 yds?) that you had called back for a holding call?  Legit to be sure, but the refs had too much influence last night.

Croz, I'm no football genius by any means, but explain to me the difference between that play we ran in punt formation that caused Gordonsville to jump offsides yet the refs flagged it for motion or procedure, THEN GHS ran what looked like the same play later and weren't whistled for it.  Smh.

The ref said one of the guys that wasn't shifting moved before our player crossed the line of scrimmage.

When I saw it back on film, he was right.

When you guys shifted, our LB started coming. It caused your guy (who was not shifting) to move to take him on. He moved before our guy crossed the line of scrimmage. It had nothing to do with the shift.

Looks like Fayetteville is comparable to Coalfield in a sense??
