Week 9 -- Morristown West at D-B

D-B is in the driver's seat in Region 1-6A after tonight's shootout victory over the Farragut Admirals.

Morristown West may have surprised some folks with a respectable 28-14 setback to that team from Johnson City.

There's no way this game should be close, but stranger thin..... yeah... this one's not gonna be close.

The Tribe defense pitches another shutout and I see the Tribe winning 45-0, setting up the showdown for the Region 1-6A title at the ballfield named after the ole ball coach the following week.

MW is nothing but a scrimmage in anticipation of next week's game.      DB should use this game to work on trick plays, alternate defensive schemes, fake punts, fake field goals, stuff like that.     Now granted if you do that you may only beat MW by 30 but who cares, there will be a time when some of those plays will be needed and no time to practice them like a live game.

Lol! You talk like MW is a pee-wee team or something. DB will have to show up in the right frame of mind to beat MW. They played a pretty good Science Hill team to the end last night. And I've seen better DB team's get beat by teams worse than MW. Not under Joey Christian but I still haven't got over it enough to think it can't happen again. Now working on fake field goals I'm with you there. Because DB would be crazy to even attempt a field goal.

This should be fairly easy game for DB but you have got to show up and play ball. Cant show up with my attitude or you might get a ball game. Does anyone know what offense West runs? Id love to see alot of passing. keep our lack luster Secondary busy all night till they get it right for once

If Boone had a team as good as DB then I would be saying the same thing, i.e., "... oh yeah, we can't overlook Mo West... we will have our hands full... gonna have to bring our A game...."       But let's get real, DB wins this game in the first quarter, the big showdown is next week @ the Hill.     I am going to go ahead and congratulate DB for this win.      I know this post will get some negative responses, so how about this, I'll bookmark this post and refer back to it after the game.      Come on DB fans, indulge yourself and enjoy this victory, then we can get down in the weeds, X's/O's, etc. for next week's game.

While it seems like a lot of fun to just write down a W on my paper schedule at the house, let’s be real. They are still just a bunch of teenage kids and if they get too big of a head there is a chance that Mo-West comes out and smacks us in the mouth. They need to treat this game like the Farragut game and take it one play at a time. No time to look ahead. That’s how you get your heart broken

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
    • It is the longest season. Plus, 30 games a year. No Christmas break. I would say basketball is the most time consuming.
