Daniels (Jack) then Rector had that program already established when Hester took over.  Those dudes where already there.  I give credit for him helping to develop them and putting them in the right places to be successful which is what a coach should do.  I am just saying that for anyone to anoint any coach that has that type of athletes is nuts.  When Will left the Ravenwood program in terms of athletes was not in a good place.  And to just cast off what M Daniel did (even though I think how he got some of his guys is very shady) is also nuts.  THis is not politics therefore it is ok to disagree.  There is plenty of credit to go around when you talk about the success of Ravenwood.

After Rector, Ravenwood fell off the map for four years under Tom Shuman and Joe Rietveld. Both were very nice individuals but couldn’t get it done on the field, going a combined 13-27 between 09-12. No playoffs during those four seasons. 0-4 against Brentwood including a game without a completed pass and two consecutive seasons with a combined score of 78-0. Rietveld also started his sophomore son at QB when he was likely the third best guy at best for the position.

That is what Hester inherited. Anything established by Rector was gone by then. However, I will say that Daniels did an incredible job too and will not be overlooked.

Boy time flies.  I forgot about those 2 coaches.  Wonder whatever happened to Shuman.  Rector has a way of leaving when the school has a dry run of talent.  He did the same to Centennial.

Shuman last I heard a few years ago went back to West Virginia to retire. Rietveld isn’t in coaching anymore either I don’t think.

What Rector did at Centennial regardless of talent before/during/after his tenure was incredible. It’s amazing how we all forgot about Centennial pre-2011 during the Rector years there. He seems to be doing a decent job at Father Ryan now.

    • RR, you might remember. Didn’t someone hide the kicking shoe that game? It seems I remember we had missed a kick the week before, and we needed all the points we could get. We thought we had a better chance going for two, so $?&@$ hid the shoe after the first miss that game. No one on our sideline looked for it very hard.
    • I will never forget the 1983 Heritage vs Maryville game. I remember driving home and listening to WGAP. Can't remember the announcers name. He asked Coach Story why he kept going for 2? Story told him " Why didn't you ask Renfro that last year"
    • TSSAA will let them all go to Mase.
    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
