I take it not a lot of lipscomb folk around these parts.  Kinda what I figured.

I'll give it shot....several threads on the board already.  Most assuming an easy Oakland win; some think running clock.  I'll admit that I haven't seen Oakland play, only LA. My suspicion is that most Oakland fans haven't seen LA this year either. I won't be shocked if Oakland wins a close one or if they grind them down in the 2nd half and pull away by 7-14 points.  I also wouldn't be surprised if LA wins.  They are deep (22 starters) and are talented.  Would imagine that our lines are not as big but we are by no means undersized.  As far as talent, we are pretty spread out among all classes.  Without going down the lineup, I think we have 1 FR, 3 soph, 5 Jr, and 13 seniors that start.  Other than the obvious (players coming in from all over the place), the biggest difference in this team vs. years past is the physical makeup of our boys.  Our Strength coach was formally with the Jags, Broncos and Texans (not the assistant but the head) and has made a significant difference.  I'm expecting a great game.

If Oakland wins big, I will come here Friday night post game and praise you guys.  That will tell me how far we need to go to be elite.

My gut feeling because I know very little about LA is that it will be a hard fought competitive game.  What I know about Oakland is that they are very well coached to begin with.  To me that has been the deciding factor for Oakland.  Great game plans, great execution (from the coaches), and what I would perceive to be very few if any errors on clock management and so forth.  That being said the coaches don't get to play.  However they know how to get the players to ready to play.  Depth is also a huge positive for Oakland.  I think they have about 100 kids give or take on the team.  If RB  Jordan James (Georgia commit) tweaks an ankle or something then in comes Antonio Patterson (whom actually shares starting duties with James)  if they both get hurt then the 3rd string guy comes in and other than a number change on the jersey, you won't see a major difference.  James is the best of the three but the other two are pretty dang good as well.  When he runs he looks slow because of his "glide"  but he's really pretty fast.  Sneaky fast.  Receiver Horton (Miami commit) is pretty solid all the way around and if you throw one up then he will climb the ladder and get it.  Oakland is a good offense, great defense, good special teams with an exceptional kicker.

It should be a fun one to watch and I can't wait to see how it turns out.  If LA wins I will happily do the same and give those kids the credit they deserve.

Great insight....looking forward to more discussion over the next 10 days....and hoping like crazy it doesn't get cancelled!

oakland will name the score when they play LA lol

Totally disagree!  Not sure who will win but I believe LA and CPA will give Oakland a very good challenge.   There’s no doubt Oakland has the talent, speed and size but I wouldn’t be surprised if Oakland drops one between those two games.   Maybe, maybe not.  That’s why they play!  Kudos to Oakland for being willing to play both teams. If Covid will stay outta the way, we should have a fun HS football season to watch!

Zoneread56! I’ve not seen you around since you were saying CPA couldn’t play with BA or MBA….

Been busy with life brotha and have not kept up w hs ball much. Until this year they could not lol, although the last few years I will say D2 has had a drop off from what it used to be even cpa themselves. Their teams from 2010-2015 were outstanding for their classification.

    • Well nothing new, the Mustangs are really talented again this coming season!  They very well could go undefeated in regular season.  We shall see what happens in postseason.  I think the path to state title game is a little clearer than years past.  I think the Stangs are going to be really good and I think the traditional teams around in 2A are not going to be as strong.  It should be a fun season!
    • I would not put too much stock into the UH over Eagleville. From what I understand they were pretty banged up in that tourney. Catcher was out, they were throwing pretty deep in their bullpen and a few key players were beat up in their infield. Sounds like they are pretty healthy heading into the district tournament. Look at their schedule, they played some really good teams.
