East TN Coaching Vacancies??

I'm not saying one way or another, but if a coach is able to turn young men in to productive citizens, he/she has accomplished his/her job.  We would all like to see our high schools win and being competitive is important, but don't dismiss a coach that has gotten all he can out of the players he has just because they are a large school.   The school my kids go to is one of the largest in the state, but the athletes seem to be focused on one sport and not multi-sport athletes.  The best administrations support multi-sport athletes and are able to compete at a higher level.  Until you know what your administrations values are don't dismiss the coach.  Coaches are some if not your most, influential support in helping your schools be the best they can be.

Which schools are you referring to, Soxx?

The ones that have the ability but the AD is scared to pull the trigger. If any school with decent size at all should never allow an AD to be one of the coaches is one thing due to favoritism and wars with other coaches over players. If your hired to be the AD you have to take chances. If your right you will bring in crowds with money. If you do nothing because your afraid of someone more powerful than you then your not an AD but a yes man. Hate mentioning names but that pretty much covers two in my neck of the woods.

I don't think it has as much to do with them not having "balls" as much as it has to do with their hands being tied. I guess it depends on what school system you are referring to.

Head Coaches are not separate entities from the school system. Athletic Directors don't hire/fire head coaches. This isn't NCAA '14

If your hands are going to be tied your making yourself look bad among the people that support that school. That means your a paid puppet. Those places aren't to hard to figure out.

Your hands are often times tied due to the policies of the school system. We aren't talking about Power 5 AD's here that are tied to the success/failure of coaching hires. In the major metro systems, these are principals that have been assigned 'athletics' as a duty just like watching the lunch room during lunch or doing discipline. You may have an argument in the smaller systems but get a grip, dude, these are high schools not the SEC.

Maybe then AD is to big of a name for that position, The Sports Janitor would be more like it.

Agreed. In most systems, they are just glorified ticket booth workers. They make sure the lights are on, make sure tickets are sold and money is accounted for and then go home. At my daughter's former school, the AD didn't even go to the Away games. Sad, really.

    • Congratulations to the Warrior baseball team winning the Region Championship.  Last night the football team beat Franklin Co 33-0 in their spring scrimmage. Warriors looked very good. Missing a few players who were playing baseball but still absolutely dominated. A lot of young ones got in halfway through the 3rd when the score reached 33-0. QB Tilton Pickett looked very sharp.  Sam Pickett is on another level this season. Seems to have put on 15 to 20 lbs in the off season and added a step as well. Transfer from last year Williamson caught numerous balls and is very elusive. Lots of athletes on this team. Defense was smothering and will only get better. The head coach from Sewanee was in attendance and offered 2 kids after the game. Could be a special year.
