Anderson county Journey To Bearden

Very good assessment. But I won't to believe Rhea Co. And SH were much better than Bearden so I think that still might make this one a barn burner but I am still going Mavs...I don't think as of today that Bearden will get over 14 pts and Mavs could support as much as 28. But this is a hard one to predict. If defense shows up like I know they can it will be hard for Bearden to score. But defense as you noted is inconsistent or allows alot if points.

What do you mean by barn burner? Bearden offense is averaging 13.8 ppg.

Well I gave Bearden 14 at best did not know there average. I think that one dementional thing you mentioned may have you stuck. The Mavs have some outstanding receivers and Bearden will get burnt if they think the Mavs will straight out run. As long as a they have anyone with a throwing arm they can score. The Mavs may not play to lose this game but it could be a close one meaning going down to wire as in Barn Burner.

I believe this will be a defensive slugfest and a very low scoring game. I could see a 17-20, 24-20, maybe even a 10-7 final for this game. Obviously, Anderson County's offense has struggled since the loss of star QB Walker Martinez. Although, they are still putting some points up, it is just not the same monster it was when he was in the line-up. Looking at Bearden, they have lost some tough games this year but are doing just enough to scrape by in their wins. I think this will be a gritty game and may go either way. However, I feel this game will be decided in the 4th quarter and special teams will play a big factor! Great football game on the horizon here.

Bingo I absolutely overlooked special teams playing a roll

And the PxP guy for Bearden is actually listenable, unlike most of that bunch.

That play by play guy for Bearden has done an excellent job all year. I know my wife and I are extremely appreciative of the work that Diamond Clear and Mark Packer have done for high school sports in this area. The guy that Mark Packer has along side him in the booth (Austin Price) on Thursday Night Games probably knows as much football as any announcer I have heard on TV this year. And that goes for every level of the sport!

Diamond Clear covers a lot knox area schools pretty good. Wish other outer area schools were a part especially AC. This will be refreshing to hear someone that is good at broadcasting.

And yeah Austin does appear to know football pretty good...LOL But he does not know AC Football well at all. He tends to be negative of AC as well if you know his past. Never really gives AC the credit they deserve...lol..So that makes him suspect in overall High School football knowledge..IMO..But I do enjoy his broadcast and have nothing against his telecast.

Well said. He and the HVA guy are both pretty good, and the rest aren't so great (some are more painful than others). No offense to him, but the guy that calls the Karns and Powell games is absolutely terrible.

I wish the guy who works as Packer's assistant (Austin Price) could take over the main commentary on the Thursday Night Games and have Cain give him the assist.

Mavs, AC can get involved with Diamond Clear for next season from what I understand. I'm not sure what that would entail, but my understanding is that they are always looking to expand their footprint. Heck, I'd love to know what the criteria is to call games for Diamond Clear. It's not an easy gig, but some of their current play-by-play guys are just flat-out bad.

I think Austin has a pretty good football IQ, but he strikes me as a bit of a "homer" at times. That may not be the right way to describe him, but that's the vibe I get from him.

    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
    • No my fight, but ... if they were already college-caliber prior to transferring to BHS, and they already had FBS interest, and they end up at an FBS school, how did Bearden do anything for them?
