Thursday Night Percy's Pushovers

Shelbyville Central Golden Eagles at Tullahoma Wildcats

The Bedford County Birds fly into T town for a special Thursday night battle to get things started. Last year the Tabbies doubled up the War Eagles but expectations of the new season have our feathered friends flying high. The smart pill machine says the Red Rock Felines suffered too much turnover in the offseason with more “turnovers” to come.

Percy’s Pushover: Tullahoma

Cane Ridge Ravens at Pearl Cohn Firebirds

The Fiery Fowl play host to the Antioch Blackbirds to duke it out in Davidson. Nashville opponents were easy prey for the Ebony Aviators last year except for the early matchup against the Flame Flyers. Expect this opener to reap the same results as we all know what happens when you play with Fire.

Percy’s Pushover: Cane Ridge

Peabody Golden Tide at Milan Bulldogs

The Gibson County Grapple

Quite possibly the toughest game to call but it should be an absolute slobber knocker when the Plum Puppies welcome the Yella Wave into the kennel. It’s been 5 years of frustration for the West Tennessee Canines but this team is dog gone fast! Meanwhile, the Trenton Teapots have something brewing with the strength in the fellas up front. The Tide should be floodin’ by the fourth and the dawgs won’t be able to keep their heads above water.

Percy’s Pushover in a close one: Milan

Cookeville Cavaliers vs Upperman Bees at Tenn Tech

The Baxter Buzz aren’t too thrilled to be heading east all the time to Tech for this annual matchup but the Putnam Pigskin Party always packs a punch. Last year’s duel was not a good showing for the Cumberland Army as the Hive had their way early and often. Expect the Swarmin” Stingers to be too much and fly home with a W.

Percy’s Pushover: Cookeville

Red Bank Lions at Cleveland Blue Raiders

The Pleasant Hill Jungle Kings travel down I-75 to take on the Bradley County Burglars in a game that should provide some fireworks. Both squads picked up six regular season wins last season so this early matchup is a tough one to call. The Scarlet Kittens will scratch and claw their way through a tight contest, but the Blue Looters will steal this one with a score late.

Percy’s Pushover in a tight one: Red Bank

Hope you enjoyed this silliness I put together and please by all means don’t use this as your guide on wagers on these games as you may be broke come Monday. LOL

May all your games be fun, thrilling, and injury free.

As a longtime listener to Leonard's Losers back in the day, I got a kick out of this.  As the strains of Foggy Mountain Breakdown play in the background. The younger folks don't know what they missed!!

Glad you enjoyed it! I could hear the instrumental intro in my head while I was typing it myself.

I can recall riding along with my father tuning in on the radio to hear the picks. Those were the days!

Sorry to get the pushover season off to a rocky start. The war eagles just ain’t 4A ready yet. The red rock kicking game gave the edge to the defending state champs in this one. 16-7 Tullahoma stays unbeaten 16-0 as of tonight.

I attended the game. I can definitely admit I was wrong but both teams are going to have rough seasons if things don't improve. Shelbyville has no offensive line. Gotta give the QB time to operate. They also need to learn to run under center in short yardage situations. Kudos though to the Wildcat Defense for standing tough on the goal line in the first half. I really think game management will have to get better for Tullahoma. Twice they were in field goal range (which would have put the game out of reach and ran passing plays that led to turnovers and no points. Take what the defense gives. Should've easily been 19 to 7 at one point and could've been worse. I normally don't talk about officiating but the interception pick six that was negated by roughing the passer was tough. Even some Tullahoma fans sitting nearby stated it was a "gift" but hey take the breaks when you get em. I'm looking forward to seeing how much longer the cats can keep it rolling! Great game and atmosphere.

Also special teams is a big part that many forget but Tullahoma will win and/or stay in ballgames simply because the kid is good from 50 yds and in!

I missed every game except Upperman. If anyone would like to pay me to pick their team to lose, my reverse psychology is strong lol

Hope everyone had good, safe games!

your insight was very good. Just sometimes kids will surprise you. I have seen the depleted Wildcats over at Tullahoma work this summer and felt pretty good that Shelbyville wasn't firing on all cylinders just yet.  Every Friday night it can be a whole new team take the field as young men develop. I wouldn't have bet against PC at cane ridge either but it wasn't their night.

So very true! In fact I almost skipped week one because it's so tough to pick em out of the gate. Yet with injuries, sickness, etc. each week can present a "different" version of each squad.
