Yes and no. The penalty was called taunting before he crossed the goal line . In result 15 yard penalty once he started the taunting from the spot. Now if he taunted in the endzone after the play . It would have been enforced on the kickoff.

No dog in this fight. Just pointing out that any unsportsmanlike penalty in High School Football Rules is a Noncontact penalty and "Must" be assessed as a dead ball penalty. This penalty should of been assessed on the extra point or kickoff. And yes, officials are being told to call taunting penalties as much as possible. Within reason of course.

NCAA you’re correct. NFHS is different. NCAA added their rule due to the penalty not truly punishing them. Therefore they made it to where the team lost the touchdown. I copied and pasted the rule below from NFHS rule book.

NFHS 8-2 ART. 4 ... If either team commits an unsportsmanlike conduct or a nonplayer foul during a down in which a touchdown is scored, the opponent may accept the penalty and choose enforcement of the PENALTY:

a. On the try, or

b. On the subsequent kickoff

Is running down the sideline with your finger in the air taunting? He didn't look or point at anyone either.

Someone messed it up that’s for sure. I didn’t catch which official made the call/decision, I was dealing with my kid at the concession stand. I do know if I was H2O staff/admin I would be standing on my head Monday morning when tssaa opened to report it. Probably wouldn’t  change the fact but considering this was a play/decision that effected a region game with playoff seedings on the line not to mention keep the winning team in contention for 1st place, they would know how I felt about it and just how bad their officials are.

    • Well, I’d hope the new coaching staff thinks they are all that because they can always walk around the school, anytime they want, thinking that, especially for what they’ve done for the student athletes and the players, putting more kids in college in his first season than the old coaching staff did in numerous years combined, but we will just sweep over that because I know you don’t like facts. But trust me, nobody wanted Mr. Big britches, made the star player switch to quarterback, which is ultimately the reason he ended up transferring to play the position. He loved, but unfortunately, had to be at another school because Mr. Big Britches doesn’t like when a teenager knows more than him, but can’t expect much coming from a guy who used all class throwing pencils up into the ceiling and making fun of football kids who were failing class right to their face, and in front of numerous students, even projecting on the board most of the time.
    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
    • This whole situation is bonkers. You don’t just kick your star player off the team just because you heard them say the F word; the coach definitely had something against the player, or somebody definitely did. Also, nobody has brought up the idea that the school blackmailed the college to get the college to withdraw the scholarship offer, not to mention that the coach who kicked her off is no longer even with the program; they were fired. I think this is a pretty easy lawsuit. I don’t know if she should deserve that much money, but I think she should get enough money for a full-ride scholarship if she cannot get one after this situation.
    • Oh yeah, I’m sure you are different people just always on the same thread for some reason, always agreeing with each other, perhaps just a bunch of dorks who would like to ###### and moan about high school football coaches do a lot of other students, so you make a football team and get a yell at them. When they do something wrong, but I’m sure you don’t like that, do you?   and I’m sure I’m aware of where you get information. A teacher who was on the coaching staff but was fired after the new coaching and staff came in and realized he actually had to start taking his assistant job a little bit more seriously than just wanting to make a little extra cash on the side, hardly even showing up to most practices, should’ve left with his buddy to go to Farragut. I’m sure he could get him a defensive coaching job, but I doubt he will be there in three years. Looking at the way Farragut is currently going.
